In theory if you do not change rites you are still a Latin Rite Catholic subject to the authority of the local Latin Rite bishop and the discipline of the Latin Church. Depends on whose theory! Canon lawyers sometimes inhabit a rarified universe that most of us seldom pay attention to. Fr. Serge I dunno. Seems to me that if I die today, most of the local pastors in the Latin rite here know me and would ship me off the to local Byzantine pastor. The way things a been goin' I'd prolly be buried to the heart tugging strains of that old hymn "Thank God and Greyhound She's Gone!" M.

You might be well advised to leave a letter giving your wishes for your funeral. This letter should be somewhere such that you may have confidence that it will be opened immediately and those responsible will act accordingly. There are several ways to do this - leave a copy with the undertaker and a copy with your next of kin, for example. Don't just leave it in a safe-deposit boz or along with your will; too often it happens that such letters left in such places are undiscovered until the funeral is over.

If one wishes to become "officially Byzantine", one might do well to acquire a Byzantine flag for use on suitable occasions. They are readily available in Athens and elsewhere in Greece, and could probably be ordered from the Greek shops one finds in larger Greek communities of the Omogeneia (or the emigration, as most of us would call it).

Bless, Father Archimandrite! I have such a flag that I fly at the in-laws' cottage and a lapel pin (with the two-headed eagle). I prefer the Star of Vergina for Alexander the Great, however . . . Alex

I am also just wondering about becoming Byzantine rite Catholic also. I was raised in the Latin Rite, then went to the Episcopal Church now I feel led to coming back to the catholic church through the Byzantine Rite. Have just started attending a Byzantine Rite parish . I have talked to a priest in the Roman rite He suggested also about becoming Byzantine. Right now I have no home church, since I have decided to come back to the Catholic Church the priest that I talked to said it was okay to recieve the sacramnets again in the Catholic church. What should I do if I have no home church?

If I were ever to switch to a different Rite, it would be the Maronite Church...simply beautiful the way they speak to and about God.

Bless, Father Archimandrite! As you will know, here in Toronto, one can get into trouble flying the Star of Vergina depending on whether the background of the flag is blue or red! The Macedonians tend to depict the Star in such a way to make it look like an augmented Greek Cross. And to this you say . . . ? Alex
