"Supermodel Gisele Bundchen stepped into the debate over birth control and sexual behavior in Brazil Tuesday, saying Church opposition to condom use was ridiculous and women should have the right to choose on abortion."

"Today no one is a virgin when they get married ... show me someone who's a virgin!" she said. from a 'supermodel" of whom I've never heard. Oh dear me - I see it's no longer necessary to obey the rules of your club I really am tired of the 'I'll do it my way' attitude - this is one of the reasons we are in the mess we are.

I'm so tired of people who are "famous" believing that their opinions matter just because they act/sing/strut around half naked ... I mean really ... Who cares about her opinion? Why does she think that she's so important that anyone should care what she thinks?

This is a supermodel of whom I've heard, but she is not informed. I enjoy Natural Family Planning. One of the a priori assumptions that has been made through that program is that people, in their human nature, can have self-control.
I was discussing this with a co-worker who did not understand that. He talked as if it's impossible to not have intercourse when the urge comes, hence why he wants his wife on the pill or to have a vasectomy as he has found out that the pill can calm a woman's libido. What happens if someone like him has the urge at work for a female co-worker? If his assumption is right, he better tango with her or something bad will happen! Maybe the known universe will implode if he ignores his urge.

"While Condom use can be arguable."
Maybe, but a non-impoverished American has no foundation in the argument. The woman's fertility cycle can measured to a reasonable degree.
I've hard the argument that using a condom is no different than abstaining when a woman is fertile. But periods of self-controlled abstinence to natural intercourse later does not prevent God from blessing you with a child. A condom does prevent such a blessing. Plus it often reduces procreation to "sex" and the other person to an object of sexual pleasure. After reading what John Paul II has said about the theology of the body, I could not be of the same opinion as I was before when I would have agreed to such a claim.

Dear Terry, Has anyone ever heard of Orthodox birth control? Well, Wed. and Fri. is a fast day. So are the forty days before Easter, and the forty days before Christmas. Fifteen days before the fifteenth of August, and many days in between. Sooo! You figure! God Bless, Zenovia

Carole: is that the reason why people who are decidedly not famous also feel their opinions on things they'd know nothing about matter (I include myself as well as this supermodel in this universal social trend, of which I DON'T approve!)?
Andy Warhol has a lot to answer for!

While Condom use can be arguable there can be no talk of abortion. This is no arguable, but it is a sin. As for those who are NOT pro-vita, the root of all is φυλαυτια. The hideous root of all the sins: love for self. God have mercy upon all the souls and upon the unborn souls, sent to God before seeing the light, little angels.......... M+

Good point, Ned.
Though I think there is a difference between giving an opinion in a conversation with others (even on a message board or a blog) an trying to use what celebrity one does have to make public statements.
The first shows a desire to converse with others and perhaps on occasion to learn from others while the second seems to be an exercise of hubris.

This is no arguable, but it is a sin. Wrong, Condom use is an unconditional sin only according to the Roman Catholic Church. Orthodox Priests often give married couples a blessing for use of condoms. The Roman Catholic problem is their view of sex as a fallen, dirty, and sinful thing. It is anything but that, it is a wonderful gift from God, a way for two people to give each other to one another more completely. It is an expression of love. It is NOT ONLY for procreation. Condom use can be considered sinful if it is used for fornication, or becomes an addiction for the married couple where sex degenerates to an animal level of uncontrollable lust. Abortion on the other hand is an abomination that needs to be stopped.

This claim is an impercise generalization.

Than please educate me. What is the Roman Catholic view of sex and its function?

A full answer to your question can be found in the collection of John Paul II's Wednesday audiences found published in under the title Theology of the Body.
