Alice. this is because many Americans do mass mailings of their resumes and it becomes costly for companies to respond to every resume submitted. One lack of courtesy and seriousness is met with another lack of courtesy and seriousness. The answer lies in person-to-person communication. Resumes are means to weed people out, not invite them to bid on a job. Don't wait to hear from a prospective employer, call them every day and bug the beejeepers out of them until they hire you just to shut you up. In my life time I have submitted many resumes and cover letters. Never a reply. Every job i got was from chatting to someone on the phone.

But this is getting off the topic for a prayer forum and I do apologize.

Ryan, With all that education it would be a horrible to let it all go to waste. Isn't there a Byzantine Catholic bishop who would consider you for the priesthood? who is your bishop? Is he in favor working with a married priests? Don't they have a need for a priest in Texas? I might even attend and worship with you.

You mentioned religious education and sales. Hmmmm. Sounds like you can really become a Byzantine Evangelist. Doe syour church want new members?

I can understand the situation with your wife and her family. You are a good man to consider her feelings. But maybe you and your wife can pray together about what is the right thing to do. My Byzantine Catholic family and friends tell me that their bishops ordain married men here. With the priest shortage in the Catholic religion, I am sure there are church shepherds looking for a few good men. It might also mean that you and your family would have to move. she can help you build a church family. I know this may be difficult, but please consider the new joys and triumphs you both can make. I have a sister and wife who both did not want to move because of family reasons. They felt guilty for levaing them behind. But once they moved for greater things they found that they were actually closer to their family, called them more often, and their visits were more cherished. Offer your souls to God and your wills to his and let it happen, man. But you both gotta be holding hands in his eyes when you do then any new direction is possible.

If I was a Byzantine Catholic bishop, I would invite you to meet with me to discuss what you can do for the Byzantine Cathlic Church where it really counts right now --- becoming a shepherd to tend to his flock. It would dishearten me to see you leave without having been given a chance to make a difference in your own church.

Eddie:

Thank you for your encouragement. In many ways, I love the idea of becoming a priest. However, I believe that for now, I lack sufficient grounding in the Eastern Christian tradition, as well as the level of spiritual discipline and maturity that are needed to serve as a priest. Perhaps at some point in the future-it is in God's hands. Again, thank you.

Dear Ryan,
How are you doing? Are you discouraged? I know here in Canada, the HR experts tell us it takes 6 months to land a job. A lot of it is networking. And for us Christians prayer.
I can understand what you wrote about your wife. It would be difficult for her to leave her family at present when everyone is still going through the grieving process.
In other posts, you also mentioned in passing some health issues.
Maybe God wants you and your wife to have the support of her family at this time.
I also found out by going to job fairs that a lot of resumes are filtered by special commuter programmes that pick up certain key words and specific qualifications. So please do not feel discouraged and blame yourself. You do not want to see your health ruined.
When I was very discouraged and going through panic attacks about the next job, someone sent me a card with this quote on it:
"There are times when in order to keep ourselves in existence at all, we simply have to sit back for a while and do nothing."
Thomas Merton.
I am sure you have done everything possible and followed all opportunities. Now it is in God's hands. God will open doors for you.
God bless,
Orest

Tomorrow (26 June) I have an appointment to meet with someone in the Archdiocesan Office of Continuing Christian Education. She wants to discuss employment possibilities in the Archdiocese with me. Also, there is a possibility for a position in a parish. I spoke with the pastor today and he said that he has not yet reviewed the materials from all the applicants, but that he should be contacting me soon. I am hopeful that something will happen soon. Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.
