No kidding... My understanding is that the delay is due to translation issues. I believe that, since he is effectively bypassing the Latin Bishops on this one, the Holy Father wants to ensure that what happened to the translation of the Ordo of Paul VI does not happen with the MP. Gordo

Gordo Well, that AND active opposition by the Bishops Conferences... And yes, I will believe it when I hear the Holy Father say... "Vell, ladies und gentlemen, I haf zome gut news fur zome of you, UND some bad news fur ze ozers...." Gordo

Actually, I would expect Pope Benedict to announce the Motu Proprio with these words:
"Annuntio vobis gaudiam magnam!"
His Holiness is an excellent Latinist.

From one news article (I can't rmember where I got it for reference though. sorry)
"The new indult would permit any priest to introduce the Tridentine Mass to his church, anywhere in the world, unless his bishop has explicitly forbidden it in writing."

Eddie
That has been talked about for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages.
I'm sure it will eventually come for those who prefer the Tridentine Mass.
This waiting and guessing when the Motu Proprio will actually be published must be most frustrating

Eddie From what I have been told, the Bishops can submit a request for an exemption to Rome (which will more than likely be denied), but the MP will completely bypass the bishops to give this authorization to all priests of the Latin Church. This was one of the requirements for reunion with the SSPX. As to whether Fr. So-and-So Traditionalist won't have to face consequences from a progressive bishop is another matter. But I suppose there are only so many nursing homes along the Canadian border... Gordo

I hate to burst your bubble but there "ain't" many who want the Tridentine Mass. Me being one of them, unless of course it was in English. With a few latin hymns. Then I might consider it. Stephanos I

Stephanos I Fr. Stephanos, No bubble bursting here. I would agree with your position, and would wish that the 1962 translation into the vernacular would be permitted (with a sprinkling of the Latin). To me that helps to ensure its widespread use. This is more than just a restoration of rite or of "Latin" to the liturgy, it is a restoration of orthodox sensibilities of worshipping the Holy Trinity. It is a preparation for heaven! God bless, Gordo

Stephanos I,
I'm curious about this. I don't think we will see a Tridentine Mass in English (we actually already had that before 1970, if you remember?) because I think the goal of Benedict XVI is a bit different.
Are you "opposed" to a Latin Trindentine Mass, or just a Latin Mass of any sort? Or is it the Tridentine part: calendar, breviary, sacraments, et al?

My humble opinion is that the old "tridentine" mass, even in its solemn high mass form, was much too stiff and mecahanical with the clergy and ministrants sort of moving like "puppets."
