[...] I might say that the parishes might petiton the bishop their priests, and that a more synodal form might be taken, but even this has a disadvantage, as the liberal majority might be able to impose their views on more conservative bishops. If there is going to be a Patriarch they should be appointed only in the most important countries and sees (Brazil, France, US, Mexico) and the men chosen should be appointed by the Pope in order to avoid hetherodox prelates to reach the Patriarchate. Interesting that you think of new "Patriarchs". I could see that in the future of the Church, but not in my life-time. I imagine that it will take some new "Fathers of the Church", Shepherds who demonstrate their Faith in word and deed, and whom the people venerate, before that step could be taken. I, personally, think it will happen, but it will take some time. And will not be instigated as a reaction to a "clergy abuse" scandal, of all things! Were new Patriarchs to be named, I would hope they would not follow "national" boundaries. Michael

Assuming the review is accurate, whatever his ideas are for reforming the papacy, no matter what their value, their open reception will be severely impaired by mixing in his un-Christian views on sexual intercourse outside of the marriage covenant - something which neither Catholics nor Orthodox will accept.

Exactly.
I wonder if real people (clergy and laity) even care about these kinds of "proposals" anymore?
Give 'im the hook!

That seems hard to gauge.

Michael McD: Fr. Corapi on EWTN told a little story about these types of priests and bishops the other night. Seems his grandfather was a carpenter who had an apprentice who couldn't pound a nail in straight or saw a board straight. He said his grandfather told the young man, "Sonny, learn your trade or find another." Fr. Corapi said the same applies to these types who confuse the Faithful. In Christ, BOB
