Was the Metropolia on the new calendar in 1935? If so, was the pilgrimage originally tied to the Dormition?

In 1934, the Ruthenian Exarchate was still on old calendar and the Pilgrimage was indeed a Dormition Otpust'. This is to mimic the Rusyn Greek Catholic Dormition Pilgrimages in Mukachevo and Mariapovch. The calendar change didn't occur until 1949.

I just had a chance to review the pictures of the Pilgrimage and it makes me wish I could have attended. I was at Mt. St. Macrina in early August and met one of our catechism teachers. I believe it was Sister Jean. She remembered Ung-Certez' brother very quickly and in great detail. Either he was an exemplary student or......

When I told him that the other day he laughed, so I think it might have been the later.

Seriously, the pictures do make me wish I could have attended. If things work out next year and my health allows, I will be there.

I noticed Bishop Kudrick, since he served as pastor of my home church in Windber for several years. I always liked him. He seemed so down to earth and approachable. He was always willing to talk about anything and always ready to accept a dinner invitation! He looks good.

As for why the Bishop from Passaic was not there, well, maybe we should refer to another post----head to Forum Section Eight--"The Revised Divine Liturgy" and re-read the post labeled "and God said" by Ed Hash. That might explain it. Or it might not. Take your pick.

John,

No, you did not miss anything. To my knowledge no photos from this year's pilgrimage have been submitted for upload. My guess is that they are commenting on last year's photos.

Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai
