"The ritual dates back at least 1,200 years. The precise details of the flame's source are a closely guarded secret, but some believe it appears spontaneously from Christ's burial area as a message from Jesus on the eve of the Orthodox Easter that he has not forgotten his followers."

Dear Friends,

FYI, on Holy Saturday, April 22, the Holy Fire was flown to Kyiv from Jerusalem where it was taken by the Archimandrite of the Kyivan Caves Lavra to the Lavra and distributed to worshippers gathered there to celebrate, beginning at midnight, the Matins of Pascha and the Divine Liturgy!

Christ is Risen!

An orthodox priest had showed me once a book that said a Latin Patriarch had also gotten the Holy Light.

What a wonderful invention the aircraft has been to be able to swiftly take the Holy Light to the 4 corners of the planet so quickly.

It was a shame that the local people of the Holy Land found it so difficult to attend the ceremonies in their own mother church. Thankfully there does not seem to have been any major disturbance this year.

What a pity I'm old and not in the best of health, because it would have been a wonderful experience to be at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher at Easter time.

Dear Zenovia,

I was at the Church of the Resurrection/Holy Sepulchre during my honeymoon.

It is a truly mystical place even outside Pascha!

I still have the olive-wood rosary that I placed on the Tomb of OLGS Jesus Christ . . .

Dear Alex,

I was in Jerusalem about six years ago and it was an overwhelming experience. The one thing that did upset me though was seeing how each Church held on to their space within the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. All I could think of was; where were the Lutherans, aren't they Christians?

I found it disgraceful that the keys were held by a Muslim because of the infighting between the different denominations. How long will this situation go on? Maybe not too long, because if it doesn't change, I truly fear for our Holy places.

Dear Zenovia,

Yes, the divisions among Christians are truly scandalous - also that Muslims need to keep the keys because no Christian group could accept any Christian to do so.

Even the Tomb of Christ itself is divided with a section open to the Copts in the back . . .

The Anglicans and Lutherans, in actual fact, have pinpointed ANOTHER place in Jerusalem where they say could have been the "place of the skull" where Jesus was buried and rose from the dead.

I saw it while on tour there and it truly DOES look like a skull - quite amazing.

Well now

I understand that these photos came from Kyiv
News Article [obozrevatel.com]

And for those like me who could be rather startled at one of the adverts there here are the actual photos

He is risen indeed !

Umm Incognitus - I was referring to one of the adverts down the lefthand side of the news page - didn't worry me [ Honest] - but thought it might offend some from a slightly more sheltered background biggrin biggrin
