Lord of the Powers be with Christodoulos, for in times of distress we have no other help but You. Lord of the Powers, have mercy on Archbishop Christodoulos.

Please lord, help this holy man continue his work. The world needs more people who truly care about honesty, truth and spirituality.

I saw the Archbishop on television here in Greece today. He has been released from hospital and is going home.
He has lost 20 kilos, but otherwise, he was quite well enough to want to talk to the people of Greece in a news conference upon leaving the hospital. He thanked everyone for their prayers, gave assurance that they were indeed felt and of great help, and in doing so, it was obvious to all that he was quite moved.
He said that he is ready for the next stage of his battle, which will be the liver transplant he will be undergoing in Miami, Florida, towards the end of August.
May our Lord God continue to be with him in the long road he has ahead of him. May St. Nektarios of Aegina, Greece, the Wonder worker, intercede for his health and for many more years of ministry to this country and on behalf of the Church.
In Christ, Alice

an UPDATE. We must continue to keep him in our prayers. Greek Orthodox Leader Nears Transplant By LISA ORKIN EMMANUEL MIAMI (AP) The leader of Greece's Orthodox Church has been getting physically and mentally ready for a liver transplant by exercising and watching his diet, his surgeon said Wednesday. Archbishop Christodoulos, 68, has a cancerous tumor on his liver and was previously said to have cancer in his large intestine. But the disease appears to be confined to his liver for now, Dr. Andreas Tzakis said. He has been in Miami for about a month waiting for the transplant, and Tzakis, director of the University of Miami's organ transplant institute, said the operation should occur "very soon." The right organ has yet to be found, he said, and Christodoulos' condition is critical. Doctors must find a donor who is dead and has the right blood type and organ size, he said. Christodoulos is in good spirits and is keeping up with his obligations in Greece, Tzakis said. "The archbishop is doing fine. Considering everything that he has he is doing excellent. He is working very hard to prepare himself mentally and physically for the transplant," Tzakis said. Tzakis' team performs about 200 liver transplants a year, and 5 percent of them go to foreigners, the doctor said, adding that Christodoulos was not getting any special treatment. "It's a procedure that has been done for many years for this type of a cancer," Tzakis said. "We hope that by removing the cancer, we will give him an opportunity to live a normal or normal length of life." Elected church leader in 1998, Christodoulos has occasionally stirred controversy with politically tinged statements. In frequent televised sermons, he has criticized gays, aspirations by neighboring Turkey to join the European Union and a government initiative to ease the nationalist tone of history books in state elementary school. Christodoulos missed Greece's elections Sunday, and the Cabinet was formally presented to the president in a ceremony also presided over by Church of Greece officials led by Metropolitan Prokopios, who stood in for Christodoulos. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gx9f3GctRORA1P34JZLTnQ4-4RVw

Dear Orest,
Indeed we must continue to pray for His Eminence...that a donor will be found ASAP. May our good Lord make this miracle happen.

Greece's top cleric treated in US Archbishop Christodoulos was diagnosed with cancer in June The head of the Greek Orthodox Church, Archbishop Christodoulos, is undergoing liver transplant surgery in the US, church officials say. The operation, at a hospital in Miami, Florida, is expected to last for up to 10 hours. Archbishop Christodoulos, 68, was diagnosed with cancer in June after intestinal surgery. He travelled to Miami in August, but had to wait until Sunday for a compatible liver donor. He was elected Archbishop of Athens and all Greece in 1998. Last year, he met the Pope at the Vatican as part of efforts to bring the two churches together - the first such talks between Greece's most senior cleric and the leader of the world's Roman Catholics. Their meeting focused on attempts to end the Great Schism that dates from 1054. The Greek Orthodox Church is an autocephalous, or ecclesiastically independent, branch of the Eastern Orthodox Communion, encompassing approximately half the territory of modern Greece. www.bbcnews.com [ bbcnews.com]

Bad news, just in a few minutes ago...sorry, it is in Greek. The operation was halted, as it was found that the cancer has recently metastasized to other organs, so the transplant would be of no use now. He will simply be treated for the cancers now. Lord, please grant more years of service to your Archbishop Christodoulos. Alice www.kathimerini.gr [ kathimerini.gr]

Gordo For all of our Greek brothers and sisters here on the forum and in Greece, may the grace of our Lord embue them with hope and faith, that God's will will prevail for them and his Church. Lord, Jesus Christ, Who suffered and died for our sins that we may live, if during our life we have sinned in word, deed or thought forgive us in Your goodness and love. All our hope we put in You; protect your servant, the Archbishop Christodoulos, from all evil. We submit to Your will and into Your hands we commend our souls and bodies. For a Christian end to our lives, peaceful, without shame and suffering, and for a good account before the awesome judgment seat of Christ, we pray to you O Lord. Bless us, be merciful to us and grant us life eternal. Amen.
