This book looks very, very interesting for appreciators of the Eastern Churches. Buyer beware, Shipping to the USA is $24.00.

You can see scans of some of the pages, including a Ruthenian Pontifical Liturgy, a Maronite Pontifical Liturgy, what may be Ethiopian Catholics? doing a procession around the Altar with Cross and Pyx (and the Priest has a really cool hat!, and other pictures that I cannot identify.

I wonder who the Ruthenian bishop in the last picture is? Can anyone here identify him?

Well I never thought Eastern Catholic liturgy was just a matter of beards, at least in this country...

How about the body odor?

The profile shot makes it a bit difficult w/o another photo with which to compare, but I thought it resembled photos of Bishop Basil (Takach), of blessed memory.

A couple of interesting side-notes.

The book was originally published in West Germany (1956) as "Die Liturgien der Ostkirche". Besides the edition being sold,
there was another edition - published as "The Eucharistic Liturgies of the Eastern Churches" by Liturgical Press in 1963. The latter was translated by Rev. David Heimann, with art and layout by Bro. Placid, OSB, from St John's Abbey in Collegeville, MN. It had 310 pgs versus 168 pgs in the 1960 Newman Press edition (the one offered on e-Bay, which was the first English-language edition).

Hmm, there is also reference on-line to the 310 pg. edition vs a "condensed" edition (200+ pages). The book, at least the MN version, was coffee-table style - 9.75x12 inches. Copies of the MN edition are available thru alibris - most are more expensive than the e-bay one would be at its present bid, even w/ the high cost shipping added. One of the descriptions at alibris indicates that there are 803 photos in total.
