In conjunction with their 26th Annual Carpatho-Rusyn Celebration, St. John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church (Uniontown, Pa.) will offer a Church Slavonic Divine Liturgy, 11:30 AM Sunday October 28, 2007 . The celebrant will be St. John's pastor, Fr. Thomas Wesdock, with responses in the traditional Rusyn Prostopinije being led by Mr. Jerry Jumba.

Following the Church Slavonic liturgy, a full day of activies honoring the Carpatho-Rusyn heritage will take place in the parish hall. A variety of Carpatho-Rusyn traditional dishes will be available throughout the day. Everyone is invited to attend this annual cultural event.

Yes, it is a real joy to hear Prostopinije in the original Slavonic musical setting. I'm thankful that the parish continues to offer this Church Slavonic Divine Liturgy. May God bless them, Mnohaja i blahaja L'ita!

Somebody please record. These are becoming far and far less frequent, and we need Jerry's legacy to be recorded.

Diak,

If it is recorded, I will find out if copies can be made available.

I second this and would be willing to purchase a copy if it came out on CD! How about the C-RS?

I remember someone video taping the CS liturgy in 2005. If there is a recording, we will inquire about duplication.

Just another reminder, especially for all the Western Penna. Byzantine Catholic parishes. It seems that the BCW Archeparchial newspaper did not mention the 11:30 AM Sunday morning Church Slavonic liturgy in it's latest issue. The Uniontown festival committee sent out their PR to all the parishes and in the ad they specifically mention the Church Slavonic liturgy. frown

This would be an EXCELLENT opportunity to record the Divine Liturgy. You should really think about getting some people to digitally record the Liturgy.

U-C--if I could, I would be there in a heartbeat. I would get three or four cameras, full shot gun mics, cordless lavalier mics for the priest, deacon and cantor, a field mixing unit and get every minute from different angles. These back problems are kiling me. I have the equipment, the knowledge and the friends who could do this and make it look like it was done for ABC. Heck, some of my friends work for ABC when they come to town for football games! But I was not aware of this until this evening when I read it on this post. That part of the festivities somehow did not make the BCW. What an interesting coincidence. Or unfortunate accident. However you want to look at it.

Yes, not publicizing the Church Slavonic Divine Liturgy speaks volumes.

Keith:

Your determination to seek out ulterior motives in any action taken by our Hierarchs and our Church Administration is most disheartening.

I'm sorry to say that, even if BCW had covered this with a full-page advertisement, I'm confident that you would have taken umbrage with some aspect of the article, using it as fuel for the perpetuation of your conspiracy theory.

So, with all the reminders from Keith, did anyone on byzcath attend the Slavonic Divine Liturgy in Uniontown? Does anyone know if it was recorded? I would love to have been there but being 2000+ miles aways makes it a little more difficult to stop by.

If a digital recording or dvd was made, maybe it can be packaged to sell. We could ask the BCW to advertise the recording (I'm sorry, there's laughing in my head)! smile

The question is a good one--did anyone get to record the service? In any form--analog or digital?

Please, someone say yes.

Tim
