This is our Church http://www.melkite.org/P-Birmingham.htm

Across the front to the road, down the side a block, there was a continuos line from 5pm until Fr. went ahead and started the prayers at 7:30. Then there was no standing room in the Church.

I have no idea of what today will be like. We were all concerned for the family, but they are holding up really well. They are so thankful for the prayers.

Some observations.

Daniel is in a very loving family. He had the advantage of being able to live life to it's fullest and the opportunities to see and visit places that most do not get in a life time - old age that is.
He shared with us, those that were close the family and those that observed at a distance, the love of God.

But in his death, Daniel fed the multitudes. In the last two days, we have had at least 1,500 people come through our Church( I doubt that we will ever know for sure just how many). But they came!

We live in the Bible Belt. You just don't get Southern Baptists into Catholic Churches. Well, they people came, and they were confronted. Maybe they didn't beleive in God, but in being present before Daniel and in our Church - they came face to face with the reality of God. Maybe they were Protestant and had fears - they came in tears, but left with peace, they saw the witness of the 'Cloud of Witnesses' gathered about them in the iconography and the people there present. Maybe they were fallen away from the Catholic or Orthodox Church, they were confronted with their own destiny - one day being brought there - where in reality did they want to be.

The music, the people singing the Trisagion, Father's homily, the love of the people, the beauty of the Church. The two mercy meals, time to sit, reflect, and share.

Amazing how a child of 21 years feed such a multitude of people!

Prayers for Daniel, his family and those whose lives he touched.

Dear Pani Rose,
I got goosebumps when I read your post above. First time that's ever happened to me reading anything on the internet.
