If Rodger Baloney (oopps) I mean Rodger Mahoney were elected Pope mad then I most certainly would become an Orthodox wink guess there then wouldnt be any reason for not doing it.

Dear Stephanos I,

In your profile, you identify yourself as a member of the clergy. I find your comments above most unedifying and uncharitable, most especially for a cleric. BTW, his first name is spelled "Roger" and his surname is "Mahony." Public disrespect for a hierarch is most unbefitting for a member of the clergy.

Peace,

Charles

Good afternoon Randy.

This "vote" thing is, IMHO, unseemly. The Church is not a democracy and you can be assured that the members of the College of Cardinals don`t give a hoot about websites like this, nor do they take them into account. This "vote" site is not a scientific poll and the number of votes is meaningless.

As I said in a previous post, it would be more fitting for people to pray to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will make sure that we get the pope we need who will not necessarily be the one we want.

I wish you peace,

Charles

Dear Stephanos, and all,

Fun threads are certainly permitted, but it is the custom on this forum to always use correct styles and titles, and to speak respectfully about Churches and leaders of Churches. It is a simple rule that has proved popular over time.

Randy,

"Fun threads" don`t have people bashing other people, disrespecting them, and calling them names. I realize that you didn`t do that, but a couple of other posters have. I don`t smile when I see those kinds of posts.

However, in your first post in this thread you wrote: "RATZINGER FOR POPE ! RATZINGER FOR POPE ! Hay hay hoe hoe.... leftwing cardinal got to go....."

That is politicizing an ecclesial event and you phrase your comment precisely in the mode of chants that are used in politcal campaigns. As I said, the Church is not a democracy, and applying the terms of secular politics to it is not appropriate.

I certainly have a sense of humor, but life is not always a cabaret and there are places where certain comments are not appropriate.

Peace,

Charles

I agree and forgive me.

The website of the first post of this thread was very interesting. Sure we should remain respectful and forgiving. We really should not bash and name calling people. We need to remain civil... anyway....aloha ohana and mahalo....> wink < hangloose for now...

Randy - you are absolutely correct - from time to time we do need a fun thread and we frequently do have them too biggrin

However I don't think the Church News Forum is the best place for such threads - and like Charles Bransom I don't honestly feel that this is the right topic for a Fun Thread.

May I suggest that the best place for such a fun thread is Town Hall ?

OK we occasionally do break out with a bit of hilarity on a more serious thread - but those always return to the topic - this one though - no sorry - the Forum is not appropriate

Anhelyna - probably being a spoil sport

I saw a picture of some part of a meeting of Cardinals in Rome, probably one of the "pre-meeting" meetings. There was something remarkable about the gravity and the seriousness of the gathering. Not only are they still in mourning (another reason for subjecting levity to some discipline), but there was a tangible prayerfulness about the scene. I think the College is taking its spiritual preparation and duty most seriously, and "poll-taking" is quite far removed from what is going on there in the city.

Amen, blessed Hiermonk Elias!

Although it's hard to keep from speculating as to who the next pope will be, the idea of polls and betting is, well, as Fr. Francis Mulcahy would say: "Rather unseemly."

Although from the Byzantine side of family, I do however like to learn about who these men are. Something I would probably not be doing under normal circumstances.

[As an aside question... I know Bishop JOHN (Kudrick) was in attendance for the funeral mass, I assume representing the Ruthenian Catholic Church in America. Was there a reason the Metropolitan was not in attendance? Sorry, if this was answered elsewhere on the forum.]

Dear moncobyz,

I saw Bishop John on the television (he was standing behind the deacon and reader behind the pulpit). I didn't see the Metropolitan, and don't know if he was there.

I have no desire to sound uncharitable or to resort to mud slinging, but it is impossible to ignore the many deviations from traditional Catholic teaching that Cardinal Mahoney of Los Angeles is guilty of. It is one thing to show respect for a man's position of authority, but it's another to turn a blind eye to his every transgression.

Lawrence,

If you`re going to accuse Cardinal Mahony (not Mahoney) of deviation from "traditional Catholic teaching", please specify what these "deviations" are and please provide documentation.

Thank you.

Peace,

Charles

I apologize. I truly thought about where to place this. And in my usual way of thinking I just thought it would be interesting to see what we thought about who would be pope.

Maybe a poll in Town Hall would have been better way of doing it. I really didn't give any thouhgt of people getting into the politics of it all.

Thank God we are not in control and he is.
