I know it's early, but I'm leaving tomorrow morning for a week. A happy and blessed Thanksgiving to everyone on Byzcath, and I hope everyone has good food and good times this week with their families, friends or whoever.
To those celebrating Old Calendar Thanksgiving, I'll repeat this in a couple of weeks!

Dear Andrew, 'Old Calendar Thanksgiving'?!?!? Anyway, a happy, healthy, safe and blessed Thanksgiving holiday to you too! (A word of advice when you are at family get togethers: leave the religious and theological debates for your time with us!! we can be alot more forgiving than relatives can be on such topics LOL! ) Alice

To those who will be celebrating Thanksgiving Day, I hope you will enjoy it. Those who care for turkey (or Turkey) are welcome to my share - but I do like cranberry sauce. To those who like watching football games, may you find it thrilling and well worth while this year.
To those who do none of the above, you are welcome to come to Dublin for the long weekend!

Now the joy of having Thanksgiving on both the old calendar and the new calendar is-----you get to have it twice!! Who could complain about that? I can't stand football, so that holds no appeal to me. I like the food (duh) and the family get togethers. Both my family and my wife's family don't have the drama of some families over the holidays. I'm not sure why, but I'm certainly glad of it. No crying (except when we are leaving), no hollering, no accusations, just plenty of laughter and good memories, especially for the kids. We can even talk religion and politics and it doesn't get contentious. We're too busy laughing.
Go figure.
But have a great Thanksgiving to one and all. And maybe twice.

Tim Dear Tim, What I figure is that God has given you a great and beautiful blessing in this, and one that should not be taken for granted! There is no greater gift than a loving family and in-laws. Few are given both these gifts, but those who are, are greatly blessed, and so are their children... Praise be His Name and rejoice in His goodness to you! You certainly have this to remember in thanksgiving to our Lord! In Christ, Alice

Alice--you're right. It is a blessing. I can't ever remember a Christmas or Thanksgiving or any kind of family get together involving my family, or my wife's family that wasn't anything but wonderful and full of fun. Several times my mother in law has invited one of my unmarried sisters to her house for Thanksgiving. Everyone always gets along fine. I feel bad for anyone who has to have problems at a time when it should be full of joy and fun.
I know alcohol can be a problem for some. We have it around, but usually don't have too much. I can't recall anyone ever getting drunk at any family event. One Christmas, back in the 70's, one of my brothers and his wife got my parent's a Mr. Coffee (this was when they first came out) and we forgot all about the alcohol and spent all day drinking coffee! I don't know how many pots we made, but we darn near wore that thing out on Christmas Day itself. We're simple folk and it doesn't take much to entertain us.
Tim

And Happy Thanksgiving to everyone at the Forum who is celebrating the holiday !!! I am quite occupied with work before people start coming home, so I thought I would extend my holiday wishes now.
