So by theory it is a language neutral term for the word Ukrainian?

It has recently been brought to my attention that Rusyns are Ukrainians. I guess I'll have to start flying a Ukrainian flag underneath the USA flag now. Know any good online stores selling good quality (with decent shipping charges) Ukrainian flags?

According to the article Alexandr posted, you guys are from Pridnestrovie. biggrin

In that case, all Slavs are Ukrainians, right?

YESSSSSSS!!!!! Since Slavic-ness was borne in Pridnestrovie, which is in Ukraine, that HAS to mean ALL Slavs are Ukrainain, which means also that Rusyns are Ukrainians? The evidence is piling up here.

Oh, I agree that the Austrians were nice people, and I am quite fond of the Hapsburg Dynasty. Now the Hungarian side of that coin...... I have a very nice book in Ukrainian about the atrocities committed against the Slavs in Carpatho Russia and the Ukraine by the Magyars. I will have to dig it up and give you the title.

Alexandr

I can't believe this! You mean you can read Ukrainian? Or do you mean that you own a book in Ukrainian, but are waiting for the Russian translation? (wink, wink)

As Ukrainian is in reality a dialect of Russian, it is no problem! (wink, wink!) smile

Oh, I agree Steph, I don't think anyone is Ukrainian, but that's only my opinion.

But, but, if the Slavic culture started in Ukraine, wouldn't that be the opposite wink wink ? Maybe Ukrainian and Russian are forms of Rusyn? smile

Actually, if you read the Chronicles of Nestor, the traditional homeland of all the Slavs is the eastern slopes of the Carpathians, so you may very well be right!

You know, the pro-Rusyn folks of this thread have just cracked a magnum of white-sparking whine after you wrote this thread.
However, to add to the case I presented at the beginning of this thread, remember much of the Eastern Slope of the Carpathians are in Ukraine smile

Yeah, I'll drink to that -- maybe a big gulp for my "friends" in the RDL Forum tonight!
