P.S. I apologize for botching the presidential question; I should have included "Ron Paul" and "not sure" on the list.

Wow, long poll. I feel the need to explain my answers to the following:

1.) The American War on Terror can be won by:
- Bringing the troops home from all oversea bases. Ending welfare to other countries across the globe, but encouraging trade among all nations. Focus our defense on our borders preventing illegal immigrants and potential terrorists from coming in.

2.) Illegal immigrants should be
- Currently I believe that we should secure borders, but grant amnesty for the illegals currently in the country. I know that isn't a popular belief among fellow conservatives, but I feel it is the best course of action. Eventually, I'd prefer to see an increase in LEGAL immigration once our social welfare programs were reduced so we could support an increase in immigration.

3.) Gay marriage (for civil marriage, not necessarily for religious marriage) is
- I believe that marriage is a religious ceremony, and that we shouldn't need the government's approval. As far as benefits go, which is one of the reasons for the push for gay marriage, that should be between the couple and their benefit provider, and the tax codes should treat people as individuals in my opinion.

4.) Overall, religion is
- The answers here talk about its role in society. I think it can and would be preferable to have a role in society, but I differentiate between society and government. I don't think government should sponser religion or favor one religion over another, but society should feel free to wish one another "Merry Christmas" and put up decorations, and send cards and all that jazz.

5.) Health care should be available through
- Here the answer claims that the current U.S. system is completely privatized which is false. I am in favor of reducing regulations on the health care industry and also insurance companies to reduce costs. The drug companies currently pretty much run the FDA which hinders competition and the health regulations also hurt competition. Insurance companies are required to provide different types of coverage even if the person insured doesn't want to be covered.

I am registered in the Constitution Party, but realize that a vote for our candidate is really a vote for the liberals....so I vote Republican.

All my political beliefs pretty much are that of the Constitution Party: http://www.constitutionparty.com/party_platform.php

I could not answer all the questions. I may have been able to answer partially to some of those I skipped. Some would have been agreeing to an a priori assumptiom I reject. Like on "Global Warming" I can't say that perhaps it is a problem and perhaps it is caused by nature, and I wouldn't say that it is a total scam. The War on Terror question is slanted, and if I were to make a claim on taxes I would join it to a position on spending.

Keep voting everyone ! Let your views be counted.

Also, I'm thinking about redoing the religion poll that I posted a year or so ago. Would anyone be interested? Any suggestions? Please send me a PM.

I am a Monarchist, a Libertarian ( in the truer older sence of the wrd) and beleive in the law of local subsudy.

As a result, my answrs are stranger than todays.

Here goes.

Are you a political liberal, moderate or conservative?
You may choose only one

In the end, there can be only one. (Cue Sting Music.)

OK, now thats thats over, I'm not any of the above. I am Politilaly a centrist, and lean heaivly Libertarian.

As to the votign queasiton, I do nto vote.

I o not think our leaders need ot be selected in a Popularity contest, and this si all votign is.

I think it also lends to corruption.

Global warming is

I htink a ocmbinaiton of multiple factors, including human polution, natural cycles, and perhaps the wrath fo God ( Well, unles sit means tropical Resorts open in England, then its great!)

I still ue Incandescant bulbs though.Sorry Al Gore.

(But we have replaced many of th emain bulbs wiht energy effecient oens for hte ske of monitary aid, and thir longer life.)

The American War on Terror can be won by

Pulling most troops out of the rest of the wolrd, cosolidaitgn a pwoerbse, and cleanign up our own culture, then goign after only those who attack the United Sttaes Interests.

Illegal immigrants should be

Handlesd on a case-by-case basis.

Or, The US annexes Mexico, and it becoems a territory.

Schools should teach

Both Evolution and Creaiton, to be fair to both sides, and in a fair and balanced way.

Abortion is

Murder.

Gay marriage (for civil marriage, not necessarily for religious marriage) is

An aboraiton, that will cost us culturlaly if we tmaper wiht the Instituton of marirage which si derived form naturla law and has always been udnertsood as beign between a man and a woman.

Those naitosn whch have had it for over a decade afr enow sieng family life crumble.

The government should give tax money to religious groups for charitable activities.

Yes. And institutite a State Churhc for Ceremonie sand to address the naiton. But then, I'm a Brit.
Their shoudl be no compulsion in hwich CHurhc you join, and no favouratism except in certian areas where the State Chruch has a position. All Religios bodies htoguh soudl be given aid if they benifit society.

The government should tax churches and other religious groups.

No.

This is wrong.

The government should force religious groups to provide benefits for activities (such as gay marriage) which they might find objectionable.

The Government shoudl mind its own busness and not tell anyoen whow to live or operate their own affairs.

Overall, religion is

Religion is the worldview you adopt and the means by whic you udnerstand your world, and as a reuslt inseprable form your acitons, and the decisison you make an an individual, and a unifyign mean for society.

It is imposisble to be rif =d of rleigion. EVen the self-proffessed nonreligiosu are religious.

Its always a aprt of public life.

Taxes should be

Base don a flat rate of Ten Per Cent, and givne to a much smaller GOvenment that exits soley to mediate law and keep civil order.

Affirmative action (defined as preferential hiring or preferential acceptance into schools, for minorities and poor people) is

The Govenrment tleign folks how to manage their own affair sn their own property, and thus wrong.

Health care should be available through

Mixed system. Less a drain ont he economy.

Also, if religiosn are allwoed to be promenant, as I htink they shoudl be, and private orignisaitosn allwoed to flourish, then they can also set up funds, as can emloyers.

The administration of George W. Bush is

Uninteresting.

Since George W. Bush took office, your political views have become

Become mroe ocnvenced of Monarchism and a law of Subsidy as the natural role of Humanity, butthis si unrelated to Bush's administratiin.

Health care should be available through
You may choose only one

socialized medicine (like in Canada and Europe).

a mixed system of basic primary care should be available for all, but also private insurance and practice for those who want it (like in the U.S. military).

through private practice and insurance (the current U.S. system).

Actually, I think there should be another choice. Basic care--regular doctor office visits, dental care, flu shots, etc. should be the person's own responsibiliyt.

But catastrophic care should somehow be more readily available: cancer treatment, heart or stroke care, etc., that can destroy a family that is not covered.

On another note, a friend of mine was just canceled in his health care policy--after 31 years and no claims until this year when he had to have a shoulder surgery. Now he can't seem to find anything for himself and his family. This should be outlawed.

John,

I think I figured it out, but that leaves me with two more important questions: biggrin

1) is this really just a ploy to support your "Draft Al(batross) Gore" campaign? cry

2) is the reason that the totals never add up to 100% that the poll is being tabulated in Chicago, and the ballots now swim with the fishes? wink
