Speaking as a USC alum (class of 1982), I am quite pleased that the Rose Bowl Committee chose Illinois to face us on New Year's Day. This will be the first time the teams will meet in the Rose Bowl. The Trojans and Illini have played 12 times in Los Angeles or Champaign, most recently in 1996 (The Trojans beat the Illini 55-3 at Champaign).

If you have the opportunity, I would strongly urge you to attend the game. Even after graduating 25 years ago, the excitement of traveling to Pasadena to see the Trojans in their 32nd appearance in the Rose Bowl never fades. You can leave the cold climate of Illinois (at least for a little while) for the sunny skies of Southern California. The Byzantine Catholic Cathedral of Saint Mary's is about 15-20 minutes from the Rose Bowl.

FIGHT ON!
Beat the Illini!

As an LSU alum, my loyalties on the title game are pretty clear cut... still, it's tough trying to be an LSU fan this far north of the Mason-Dixon Line (Chicago area)! grin

I'm so depressed. I drove 3 1/2 hours in major winds and snow drifts to watch the game down at school and we lost. At least I didn't spend money on a ticket to see it in Pasadena. I still think it's amazing that we even made it, we really had a phenomenal year we just haven't played many teams that are of the same caliber as USC. Well, now I am off to mope.

Dear Katie,

Chin UP!! At least they made it that far. The Rose Bowl is a pretty big deal!

I will admit I was sooo happy when PITT crashed WVU's BCS hopes like the Hindenburg!

WVU plays Oklahoma tonight in the Fiesta Bowl.

GO MOUNTAINEERS!

Let's remember though...it's only a game.

Bill

I know your pain...when Texas beat USC for the NC at the Rose Bowl in 2006, it took me a few days to readjust... but the Rose Bowl officials wanted a traditional Pac 10/Big 10 game

If Ohio State (with a loss to Illinois)beats LSU where does that put the Trojans in the AP poll?

There needs to be a playoff system...

I am hoping the Buckeyes beat the Tigers. Our home opener is against the Buckeyes on September 13, 2008.

FIGHT ON!

Deacon John,

I totally agree. And what about WVU with their convincing win last night? I think USC is (arguably, of course) the best team in the nation.

What may be somewhat miraculous is that the Kansas Jayhawks are actually going to be in the Orange Bowl and that we only had one loss this year. Basketball, sure, everyone expects the 'Hawks to be in the running. Football???? Coach of the Year????

Certainly a change from when I was a student at KU; football tickets were not a highly sought-after item and were easily obtainable.

Kansas upsets Virginia Tech!

How about Kansas plays WVU in a wildcard game. USC plays Georgia. Can't leave Georgia out. The winner of the Kansas-WVU game plays the winner of the Ohio State-LSU game. USC or Georgia plays the Ohio State-LSU-Kansas-WVU winner in the national championship!
The season should be over by March. smile
