You ought to live in almost any other state in the union. If Illinois taxes were this low I'd be elated.

For those of you who are Ron Paul supporters, what are your main reasons for doing so? I do like many of his positions (pro-life, fair tax, limited govt, property rights, etc), but I'm not sure if I completely agree with his foreign policy. I don't believe we can bring the troops home from Iraq yet. We (our govt) at least owe it to the Iraqi people to bring greater stability to the region. That said, perhaps he has said just this, but I may not be aware of it. However, I would like to see our troops pulled back from many of the other areas where we have bases (e.g. Germany). I do like Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee out of any of the other candidates.

Well, I suppose I can tackle this question. Either for or against him, Washington politicians regard Ron Paul as a man of principles that will follow his ideals and not be swayed by special interests. This has earned him the nickname "Dr. No" because he often will be the lone vote against programs that he deems unconstitutional. He gives back a portion of this congressional pay, and has opted out of the lucrative pension program.
He's also a military vet, delivered over 4000 babies and been married to the same woman for over 40 years. You can agree that he's a principled man, but still be against his policies however.
You were right that he's for limited government, pro-life, and very pro-property rights, but he's technically no pro-fair tax. He believes a "fair tax" would be a step in the right direction, but he'd prefer to cut federal spending back to pre 2000 levels, in which case we wouldn't have a need for a "fair tax" or an income tax.
He believes the Iraqi's do want us to leave now, so that's what we should do, and he believes they'll do just fine without us. He's also for bringing our troops home from around the globe as well and creating a more secure border.
Why I support Ron Paul, is because I agree with his vision that the United States economy is in trouble. Ron Paul is the only one that is talking about the falling dollar and the trade deficit. That and the whole "freedom message" are why I support him
Hope I did the good Doctor justice in my response.

Nathan,
Thanks very much for the clarification on his position regarding the "fair tax" and for the additional info (Dr. No - I like that name - I think all politicians should have that nickname). Just maybe one quick question. If our govt returns to pre 2000 level spending, how does that allow for a "fair tax" or no income tax? Where will the money come from?
Thanks again! I am leaning more towards him each time I read about his positions on his website.
Aaron

The reason I so strongly support Ron Paul is that he upholds our Constitution more than any elected official I know of. The Constitution is not a sacred or holy document, but it is the foundation of our nation, and I cherish it deeply as a citizen of the sovereign state of Illinois. Democrat or Republican, Liberal or Conservative, Right Wing or Left Wing, those that would violate our Constitution I hold in the utmost contempt.
