In the thread where it was announced that Bishop Skurla is going to be moved to Passaic, someone mentioned that we should petition EWTN to show more Eastern Catholic things and this one would be perfect. So I propose that we inundate EWTN with e-mails requesting some kind of coverage. We should take any chance we can to put ourselves forward, into the public's eye.

Here's the address: viewer@ewtn.com For more information on contacting EWTN, here's the link: http://www.ewtn.com/general/contact.asp

I seriously think this is a great way to get the word out there. I know I sent a thank you note (which they did reply to) when they televised the 100th Anniversary a few months ago. So let's not lose momentum! The more people requesting, the more chance it will happen.

I work in Broadcasting, so I know all about the expenses. And I know it can really be quite inexpensive if planned ahead of time and done properly. I wouldn't be surprised if there are people in the Passaic Eparchy who would be happy to help in getting things ready for EWTN. People with experience in running cameras, audio, etc. I would volunteer myself if I could. All it takes is a concerted effort and I would hope the Eparch's would support such an effort. It doesn't mean money from the Eparachy, it can be a heartfelt request to each and every person in the Eparch to help. A simple letter read by each priest at each Liturgy and printed in each bulletin. Simply asking for help can get you amazing things.

What do you say--shall we make an effort to put our best foot forward??

Slava Isusu Khrystu!

I think that your idea is not only a GREAT one, but a wonderful way in which to help Latin Rite Catholics enjoy the many many riches of the Byzantine Church! I know many of us of the Latin who have a great esteem, love and appreciation for the spiritual richness which is the Byzantine Church.

May I commend you for your idea? Thank you so much. I will E-Mail them myself as well.

Do take care and enjoy the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Theotokos!

Peace,

John Doucette

Tim,

I will e-mail them too. Would this be video archived too, for those who would miss it?

I would agree that it would be wonderful to see it broadcast and more so, the ordination to the episcopate of Fr. Dino, but one question that no one has asked is:

Does Passaic and Bishop William WANT it broadcasted? I think that needs to asked before contacting the station.

I'm wondering how many live broadcasts EWTN has had of Roman Bishop consecrations/installations?

Having said that, it may make more sense to professionally video the events and make a DVD's available for purchase. When Bishop William was consecrated and installed as the Eparch of Van Nuys, a videographer was commissioned. The Consecration/Installation Divine Liturgy was made available for purchase on VHS and DVD.

Slava Isusu Christu!
Slava na V'iki!

Thanks for all of your kind comments. I think it probably would be a good idea to approach the Eparchs with the idea of requesting this event be televised. I couldn't see any reason why they would not want it to be done, but it's always a good idea to ask. I would be more than happy to do that myself if people feel it is a good idea.

If a professional videographer was hired in the past, then that would make the request much, much easier for EWTN to accept. All they have to do is clear some programming space on their schedule. And I'm sure they can do that easily enough. If you were a television network looking to fill 24 hours a day, seven days a week with good quality programming and someone came along and dropped a tape in your lap--it would be hard to say no. I would question any one who did come up with a no decision. There's no guarantee they will say yes, but if enough requests come in and a professional quality recording is provided, it should be a foregone conclusion.

Since there is some time before the first enthronement, why not wait a bit and see what others think. I can contact the network and/or Eparchies to see what they think. I just think it's a great way to bridge the gap and take advantage of the show that was originally broadcast from Philadelphia. A simple announcement in each churches bulletin asking those parishioners with access to e-mail will go a long way to let EWTN know there is an opportunity for them here. For donations as well as regular viewers for their established programs. No network is so big it doesn't worry about new viewers. Unless the people in charge are complete idiots, and I don't think that is the case here.

More opinions are what is needed--please spread the word to all posters on the forum for input!

Tim
