Vick got what he deserved. Those involved in dogfighting are total sadists, and if this ends his football career he can just chalk it up to his passion for torture.

I don't think 23 months is unreasonable for the animal cruelty aspect of all this. It has nothing to do with the relative value of a human life versus a dog's life. Obvously he wasn't that sympathetic of a defendant if he drew 23 months.

Hopefully, he'll get his head together and act the model prisoner. His NFL career is probably over, but that's all by his own choice and his own doing.

When your buds come by your house and suggest you start a dogfighting ring, you just say no - and you consider whether you ought not stop hanging out with such people!

I believe he also mentioned somewhere that he had become "born again". Let's hope it is sincere.

I personally think almost two years is excessive. 1 year is probably enough. I agree with John and Father Serge that crimes and injustices against humans should be the focus of prosecutorial attentions and bring much more severe penalties as well.

Hello All,

It seems that cruelty to animals is kind of a warning sign of behavior that can escalate to humans. It needs to be targeted early as a preventive measure, I think. Such a destructive pathway seems to have been overlooked in people's reaction to the particulars of this case.

Peace to you all! A student
