To my many friends of the Byzantine Forum: Slava Isusu Khrystu! I have just had the privilege of visiting one of the nicest websites that I have seen. It is the website of a Russian Orthodox Church in the state of Connecticut. The website is of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia Russian Orthodox Church in Norwich, CT. www.holynewmartyrs.com [ holynewmartyrs.com] They have a lot of good information about Russian Orthodoxy and the Holy Imperial Martyrs of Russia especially Saint Elizabeth the New Martyr. I would encourage any of you to visit this website. You are really in for a treat. I felt almost like a child in a candy store. Peace, John Doucette

Holiday Concert
On Sunday, December 16, 2007 the Orthodox Church of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia cordially invites you to participate in a rare moment. Our holiday concert this year will feature The "Yevshan Ukrainian Chorale Ensemble" of Hartford which will be performing a selection of Ukrainian Liturgical music and a collection of Folk and Christmas songs - many of which are shared and familiar to the Ukrainian, Polish and Russian cultures. How refreshing to see that this parish unlike some parishes in the OCA are not trying to deny their heritage. The parish seems to have reached a very good balance of English and traditional useages.

That parish handbook is pretty interesting. I'm always struck by the vast differences in Orthodoxy between jurisdictions. It seems to me sometimes like one needs to go to school just to learn when and how to do anything in a Russian church -- I'm not being critical, I'm just saying that there's a lot of outward stuff that is "proper" in a Russian church. Enter, bow three times, bow to everyone present... never heard this stuff before.
