Alex,

I meant it seemed kind of trivial to me to do an "Orthodox vs. Catholics - Which Thread Has More Posts?" kind of run-off!

EC's have tended to stay away from all things Eastern Orthodox? Maybe in the real world, but never here on the Byzantine Forum!

My priest was just talking about her last night. He told how whe used her own clothes to try and bandage the injured. I have to say I was choked up.

Dear Logos-Alexis,

Yes, but the EC's and "Orthodox in communion with Rome" here are certainly not typical of the "average ECer" and EC parish.

Far from it, in fact.

The ECers here are the "elite" who are not satisfied with Sunday DL only to fulfill their perceived vocation in openness to the riches of the Orthodox Christian East in contradistinction to the scholastic Western achievement which influence over the EC Churches has tended to obfuscate what should be a clear focus on the theological praxis that characterizes an ideal-typical commmitment to Eastern traditions . . .

I think you get my point . . .

Yes, Alex, I have! "Scholastic West" = Bad, "Orthodox Christian East" = Good.

That's it, right? smile

No, not at all!

I was making a deliberate caricature of the perceived "Eastern Elite" who are, fortunately for us all, members of this Forum.

What is "Scholastic West?" Is that when a cowboy finishes high school? wink

LOL. Well you are the one who first used the phrase "scholastic Western achievement," so maybe you could tell me!

Alternatively, one might say:

"one bar good, three bars better!"

(and no, this does not apply to public houses!)

Oh, Father, that's no fun. I do love a good bar or three!

I like alot of Orthodox saints, my favorites are probably:
Saint Seraphim of Sarov
Saint Elizabeth the New-Martyr

I also like:
Saint Peter the Aleut
and
Saint John of Kronstadt

There are more, I can't think of them right now though.
Reading this thread has also gotten me interested in Saint Xenia of Saint Petersburg, I think I'll have to read up on her. Perhaps Alice could suggest a book or a website?

God bless and keep you....

Thanks Alice, very much!

I remembered the other saints I meant to list yesterday: The Holy Romanov Martyrs, and Saint Alexis Toth. As odd as it may seem for me, a Catholic, to like Saint Alexis Toth, I must admit that I do have admiration for him. I see him as a man who followed his conscience and did what he believed was right, even though it must have been difficult.

God bless and keep you....
