I was just watching the Mass for Life on EWTN, and saw, in the very front, a group of ladies in Lenten purple blazers, with yellow/gold sashes/stoles.

They were generally older with shorter hair, and reminded me of 1970-ish, angry, wannabe-priest nuns. Is that a new 'monastic' habit?

Anyone know who these ladies were, and why they dress that way?

They were wearing official-looking name badges. Let us, in charity, assume that they were some part of an official delegation of some sort having an official role (and thus dressed uniformly) in the pragmatics of the event.
