Dear Friends,
I just learned that the pastor of Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church in Atlanta has decided to convert to the Holy Catholic Faith. This is a huge mega-church, I'd say definitely the biggest Methodist church in Georgia.
As pastors of those churches make lots of money, get cars and houses, etc., apparently he is giving up all of that.
Please keep him in your prayers, and hopefully he'll take some congregants with him!

I am going to repeat the policy of this section again. This section is reserved for prayer posts and to acknowledge you are praying for others. Any other posts will be either deleted or edited. If you have any question to the policy, it is listed on the top of the post list for this section. All other posts should be done on a thread in the appropriate section of the forum.

Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai

Father,
Did I do something wrong? The purpose of my post was exactly that: to acknowledge my prayers for the pastor and to invite others to pray for him during this important event in his life.

Dear Alexis,
I may be wrong, and I am in no way speaking for Father, but as one of the moderators of this forum, I think that it was the next post that was the problem, though I am sure that MrsMW meant no harm and probably forgot what forum this was on.
I think that maybe this topic would have been better off on Town Hall where posters could feel free to discuss it. Sometimes prayer intentions like this end up too tempting, too news worthy, too gossipy and/or too controversial to not want to discuss or ask questions about.
Just my two cents, Alice, Moderator

Oh, ok! That's no problem if someone wants to move it to Town Hall.

I didn't look at the place it was posted. It was a simple mistake. I took it off.

OK, y'all...remember my first post? Turns out this is the 3rd largest Methodist church IN THE WORLD. You can read an article about the pastor's conversion over here on Angelqueen: http://angelqueen.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18264Alexis

I wrote about this on my blog.
In no way do I take it for granted, but without being triumphal, when I read the news reports of this coming down the Catholic newservice I had to stop to see if this was "another one" or the same fella that had made an announcement the week before. As it turns out, this was "another one."
Not to be triumphal, but something is definately in the air, as these newstories are becoming mighty routine. From the four Episcopal bishops, to the retired Lutheran bishop in Canada, the two Church of England women pastors that made the news last week, Dr. Francis Beckwith (president of the Evangelical Theological Society) a few months ago and so many more.
Years ago much hay was made about the massive loss of Catholics in some circles to Evangelicalism, Pentecostalism, and quasi or pseudo Christian sects like JWs & LDS. Talk of conversion to the CC (aside from folks married to a Catholic) was near unheard of. That ministers and protestant theologians would? I was sure that would never happen.
Some might winds are blowing.

Some might(y) winds are blowing. Simple, I agree. Fragmentation is giving way to convergence and convergence is giving way to communion. Many are realizing that the Catholic Church, especially under Pope Benedict, brings together Old and New as well as East and West while speaking boldly with the "one voice" of Christ throughout all time and places. It is the mustard seed that has become a large and fruitful tree - a resting place for the nations. May God grant the Catechumen, Allen, many years! Gordo

I wonder if Dr. Hunt is making or will eventually make use of the Pastoral Provision.. his kind of education, charisma, and teaching ability seems to greatly point to a calling to strengthen the Church and those seeking her, perhaps within the ordained minstry.

Some might winds are blowing. THE SPIRIT IS MOVIN' ALL OVER THIS LAND! If anyone is interested. We had Dr. Beckwith here in B'ham for a conference this past summer. If you would like the cd's from contact Ray at ccrob@catholic.org on his reversion and I can't remember the other topic right now. Anyway, he is able to bring very difficult topics down to very simple terms. If you check into all the Presbyterian ministers that converted, many of them went to the same seminary. That seminary is in an 'old Roman Catholic convent'. Can we say those nuns prayed for conversions?

Michael, I wondered the same thing. But does the Past Prov currently extend to Methodists? I know it does for Lutherans and most Episcopalians... Gordo

As one who is indirectly involved with the Pastoral Provision. My understanding is that it only extends to Anglicans. But I do know of a case of one Lutheran who is now going through this process. It seems his family isn't joining him. Let us pray for their conversion as well.
From my personal experience with Mt. Pisgah, it is much more "Baptist feeling" than Methodist. It is not very liturgical from what I understand. Sort of your typical mega-church, probably with some Wesleyan hymns here and there.
