The blog below was done by a few college students who feel that some people are worshiping Obama as the Messiah. The icon done by one of Obama's supporters is just too much. http://obamamessiah.blogspot.com/Comments?

IF not a satire, we shall hope it is a wide eyed exageration that grewout of immature emotions.
Otherwise, such investatures of a mere politician with such clamour, when he shows signs only of his own feeble willignness to play political games and do he usual backroom dealings, is disconcerting.
Have we lost all focus on the truth of Gods word tat we shoul project on such a man this kind of image?
It truly disturbs to think upon it.

If one reads the comments underneath that icon, there is the one where a gal wants to link her Obama campaign thread with the blog. She agrees with the blog. That is scary.

There is no doubt that a lot of people are looking for a charismatic messiah-type leader.

EM, I am more inclined to think that the intended effect / inspiration for that art is more to be like marxist-inspired poster artwork of "glorious revolutionaries" a la [ Linked Image] Similar can be found of Che Guevara which are often sported on t-shirts by trendy [useful idiots] making some good capitalist who makes t-shirts a lot of money with their [useful idiot] trendiness and cash!

Yes, it is an attempt to use satire, but apparently some cannot see the satire and think the blog actually supports this way of thinking.

Interesting comment.
They cannot worship God whom they cannot see, so they create men to be their gods.

Fun! Thanks for posting this. That "icon" is the least impressive part of it - if you want to see some real shockers, have a look at Soviet-era "icons" of such dubious luminaries as Lenin.

Exactly what I thought when I looked at the "icon" of Obama.

-- John I'm sorry John (and please don't take this the wrong way), but if we can't make fun of politicians, who can we make fun of? I supported Bush, but cetainly have no problem laughing at the "tributes" to his Bushisms. Your brother in Christ, Aaron

As my 17-year old daughter might say, "I was creeped out". Over the past several years, I have seen attempts at writing icons that can only be seen as "demonic", i.e., I remember there was an "American convert iconographer" who was subsequently excommunicated from the Greek Orthodox Church, who was writing icons of "saints" such as Magic Johnson and Martin Luther King. I have seen other "icons" which are truly repulsive, such as androgynous images of what was claimed to be Jesus Christ, i.e., a Christ with both feminine and masculine characteristics (and the latter was in a monastery). One of the Fathers (I forget who) wrote that, in the time preceeding the ascension to power of the Great Antichrist, that a false John the Baptist would first have to prepare the way by spreading evil everywhere. I don't think that it is unreasonable to conclude that we are in that time period.

Maybe you could refrain from such uncharitable language when describing other people. In other times and places people with disabilities were viewed as freaks, so I would expect you more than anyone to be sensitive to such terms.
