The end of phase 1 of Raymond's treatment is today - the first round of Chemo is over [ well later this evening smile ]

He now , as he told me , has no immune system - his resistance to infection is zero.

At this stage it's even more important than ever that he is in that isolation room.

From tomorrow he enters a recuperation phase during which time he will continue to be on antibiotics being given by his Hickman line and will also be getting anti fungal treatment as well. During this recuperation period his blood will be monitored very very closely to see if he goes into remission - even if he does - a second round of Chemo will follow and another recuperation period too.

Since his treatment started just over a week ago he has not slept for more than 2 hours at a time - either day or night since his IV Pumps 'sing' as the bag nears empty - and when he has 2 going at once they rarely finish at the same time frown We are both hoping that he may get a reasonable sleep soon - he's understandable very very tired.

We thank you all for your prayers

Once more , we watch and wait, and I pray.

Lord I pray for Raymond supernatural sleep. Rest in you Jesus that only you can provide. The noises of this world flee in your presence Jesus, so provide through your holy angles rest for his body, mind, soul, and spirit. In the Name of Jesus amen.

Tina [ daughter #2 ] has come up for the weekend and we saw Raymond tonight.

He's not at all well tonight - very high Temp , 3 drips up - 2 are antibiotics via the Hickman line , and the third is Platelets by another cannula in his left arm.

His antibiotics are to be changed tonight as they don't seem to be doing any good. Seemingly the doctors are concerned about this .

Tonight for the first time he's not fighting - giving me instructions for the future without him etc.

A few extra prayers for all of us would be appreciated.

We have seen him again tonight .

This is the first day he has been in bed all day - he really is exhausted.

His temp is down slightly but still above the temp at which they would normally transfuse him , but the decision was taken that his need for blood was so great that they would have to take the risk .

Sooooo once more he has 3 IVs running

I have brought home his wedding ring because his fingers are swelling so it was removed while it was still possible.

He is still not fighting - hopefully he will once he is not so tired.

Prayers for all of your family. Sometimes it can be harder on the caregiver than the person who is sick. I often think of what my son and wife go through versus what I go through in my painkiller-induced fog. Take care of yourself! Make sure you eat even if you're not hungry. Sleep as much as possible, etc.

The Hickman line will help. I had an A-port installed since my veins went in 1999. It has been a tremendous help over the years.

Please keep us informed as much as you can. But on the time schedule you have. Raymond comes first, of course. Know that we are thinking of you and sending you our emotional "care" packages.
