Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On Thursday of last week while I was traveling in Europe, I received the news that Eva, the 16-month old daughter of one of my sisters may have cancer. She had been brought over to the doctor because of a high fever, when she had a seizure at the doctor's office. Upon examination and further tests, they found a 13.5 cm tumor, roughly the size of a baseball, which is as large as her lungs and located by her lungs, heart and near her spine.

Based on further tests, they found that the tumor had not metastasized.

Today (Monday) they plan to do surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible. Obviously, with the tumor as close as it is to major internal organs, there are many risks. Following the surgery, they will test the tumor to see if it is malignant and then determine if they need to do chemo.

Jack, her brother, also had a seizure at Target while with his dad. He was taken in by ambulance to the same hospital where Eva is. As it turns out, he had strep and his fever had spiked very rapidly.

Eva was baptized yesterday by a local Latin Catholic deacon. Please pray for her, for the doctors, for her parents, Kristi and Jon, and brother, Jack.

A Caring Bridge site is being created for little Eva. I will post it as soon as it is launched.

Please pray!

Your brother in Christ,

Gordo

Gordo, my brother,

My prayers and those of my little ones for Eva, that the Unmercenary Physicians, Cosmas & Damien, guide her physicians in their diagnosis and care of her, that the surgery and treatment be efficacious and that she recover fully and be granted many years of life and happiness.

Prayers, too, for your sister and brother-in-law, little Jack, you, and all your family, that you be comforted and strengthened in these times of stress and uncertainty.

Many years,

Neil

Eva is in surgery as we speak. The good news is that the tumor is not attached to any vital organs, with the possible exception of the pulmonary artery. If the tumor is attached to the artery, they will not be able to remove it today and will have to shrink it first with chemo.

Please continue the prayers!

Thank you and God bless,

Gordo

PS: Praise God! Since writing the note above I received a text message: They got the whole tumor!!! Thank you all for your prayers! They are still not sure if it is cancerous. My family and I spent the day at the St. Anne Shrine in Sturbridge, MA, saying prayers.

Dear Friends,

We received a little distressing news from the doctor yesterday. Here is my sister, Kristi's post:

Quote
Well, we have just returned from the doctor's office. The spot where the tumor was is just fine. However, they have found "something" else on her left side.

We don't know anything and won't know until Monday. They have done more tests. The results of those tests will determine the course of treatment.

I think everyone felt so elated before. It seemed she had this thing beat. We are all saddened by the news of what this might possibly be. Please pray for Eva and for my sister, Kristi and her husband, Jon. I will keep you posted on the test results we get on Monday.

Thank you and God bless,

Gordo
