I stopped last night at my local Chinese restaurant for some garlic vegetables in spicy brown sauce (delicious and it contained neither salt nor calories).
But I stopped dead when I walked in. There was a Saint Patricks Day party going on. Everyone was done up in some sort of green. They took up about half the restaurant. As I was waiting for my order (to go) I wound up in conversation with some of the party-goers. One wished me a Happy St. Patties Day! and I wished him the same, and then said: Yes, Saint Patrick, the Enlightener of All China! He looked at me, not understanding, and I asked (struggling to keep a straight face) if they were having the Hunan Corned Beef and Cabbage. Then he got it and roared.
Happy Saint Patricks Day to all my Irish friends (and those on the Julian Calendar should not read this post until March 30th (new style))!

They are just celebrating it now? We celebrated "Unofficial St Patrick's Day" at the University of Illinois last Friday. Unfortunately it has turned into a day of debauchery and crudeness. It was started because we at the U of I are on Spring break during the holiday. Luckily, some devout Irish Catholics at my dorm (the catholic newman center) decided to ask the priests to hold all day adoration if they could find enough people to keep vigil in church. The support was overwhelming as dozens of Catholic students tried to take back the holiness of the holiday.

Somehow a day of debauchery and crudeness does not seem entirely appropriate as a means of honoring Saint Patrick.

I am guessing you mean to say the sauce was low-calorie? Maybe? If you had a veggie dish that was no-callorie... would it have been celery which apparently takes more calories to digest than it contains?
