I just rec'd an e-mail from Archdeacon John DeMeis of Our Lady of Grace Society (Italo-Byzantines) regarding Lorenzo Lojacono, who has reposed in the Lord.
Lorenzo trained as a deacon with the Melkites - although I don't believe he had yet been ordained, was a member of the Arberesh community in New Orleans - actively involved in the effort to establish a parish there, a member of OLOGS, and served briefly as editor of its newsletter, as well as being a lurking member here. In the aftermath of Katrina, he and his family had relocated to TX.
May his memory be eternal.
"One day all our ethnic traits ... will have disappeared. Time itself is seeing to this. And so we can not think of our communities as ethnic parishes, ... unless we wish to assure the death of our community."
