We once had a goat that got sprayed by a skunk. We had to use cans of tomato paste to bathe her. It was effective.

When she had contact with a billy goat, we had to once again use that tomato paste.

My kitty spent a few days in the kitty hospital last week. Poor guy couldn't pee. That's probably more information that anyone needed.

He's an Irish cat, we named him Clar Eadain, on account of his HUGE forehead as a kitty.

FUS is a serious problem when it happens. Even worse, the primary indicator is lethargy. ??? For a cat?

We caught it when he stopped to rest on the way to the litter box--extreme for even a cat.

My (then) fiancee took him to the vet with my credit card--$300! And put in my spare bathroom's tub with a caheter for a week. The vet had prescribed the wrong antibiotic, leading to $400 at the next vet.

Anyway, at or near the end of the week, she came by for something while I wasn't there (stealing my laundry? quiet place to study?), and got the bright idea to give himm a bath . . .

He actually *appreciated* it. He leaned into the warm water, and then sat happily while being blow-dried . . .

Such prices are criminal!!! SHAME on them. I have been charged such prices myself at my neighborhood vet.
Glad that kitty is doing well though....

Yeah, the costs are criminal. What is worse is why any vet would think your cat would want to take 4 pills a day. My cat is a beast and he's what the vet calls "aggressive", which means he comes out with claws a-blazin.

So, suffice it to say that my hands have become pincushions from "administering" cat meds. What makes it tough is that the kitty doesn't like wet food, so I can't crush the pills and put them in wet food to try to sneak one by him. Darn stubborn cat...

I've found myself transformed into a VERY uncharitable man at med time. I say some of the nastiest things to that cat after he spits out a pill and draws blood... but they are not rational creatures, so it's not like saying "it's for you own good" works, though it's not from lack of trying. Of course, by then, the word "good" is heavily modified by some choice adjectives.

And it wasn't like I could really afford it then, either . . . ("You spent *WHAT* on my cat???")

A couple of years ago, we actually paid about $2,000 on one that got hit by a car. When we *really* couldn't afford it. But the High Honors program at the local Catholic high school had gone overboard, and I was afraid my daughter was already close to snapping--and that losing her cat could push it over. We classified it as "cheaper than a psychiatrist" and borrowed . . .


Actually, that one is about 10 years deceased He's still the one I miss, though. He could tell when I was stressed, and would crawl into my lap. Cat-haters loved him. Most people with strong cat allergies could still handle him (pity we didn't put that together before he was fixed!) He stalked the vacuum cleaner!

His vision, though, was horrible; he was unbelievably far sighted. He could hit something on the fly half a room away, but if it was under his nose, he'd miss batting it. And I recall him staring at a spot of green carpet he knew held a cricket. He couldn't see it, so he waited for it to move.

Oh, and he loved rough-and-tumble. He had no problem with my first toddler tackling him. When she got to rough, he got up and walked a couple of feet away. Yes, he successfully trained her . . .
