While cleaning out the attic I came accross these short video clips of the 1939 Declaration in Khust of an independent Carpatho-Ukrainian Republic (Karpatska Ukraijinska Respublika).

Ruthenian Greek Catholic Monsignor Avgustyn Voloshyn (seated wearing glasses) was proclaimed the new president and he looks mighty worried because he was keenly aware that the Hungarian facists were about to attack the newly proclaimed Carpatho-Ukrainian nation.

I particularly like the singing of "Stche ne vmerla Ukraina" !!! at the end of the declaration by these Carpatho Ukrainians. Does anyone know who is actually reading the declaration ?

(more about the independence day --- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpatho-Ukraine)
