These are photos from the First Annual International Soccer Tournament of Seminarians, held in Preov, Slovakia. Included were Orthodox and Greek Catholic seminarians from Slovakia, and Greek Catholic seminarians from Poland.

In case you're wondering, the winners of this first annual tournament were the Orthodox seminarians. biggrin

It doesn't matter who won, the important thing is that they are "playing" together.

This is very positive for ecumenical relations in my opinion.

How appropriate! After all, the Greek-Catholics and the Eastern Orthodox have spent much time kicking each other around.

Are you saying they were getting rid of frustrations, Abouna?

The Ukrainian Autocephalous Church in Poltava on the last page of their web site has a list of "related Orthodox sites" which includes not only the UOC-Canada and the UOC-USA, but also the UGCC in Ukraine and around the world.

There are in fact many Ukrainians (living in Ukraine) who do consider the UGCC a fraternal church on par with other canonical Orthodox Churches.

In recent years, the relations between the Orthodox and Greek Catholics in Slovakia have greatly improved. Fraternal exchanges and official representations at important events are more common. For example, the three bishops of Presov--Orthdodox, Greek Catholic, and Evangelical/Lutheran--wrote a joint Christmas message this past Christmas.

And having seminarians beat each other up on the soccer field is much, MUCH better than having them beat each other up over a church building. smile

Many believe that a great miracle will take place in Ukraine. It will demonstrate what Our Lord prayed: "That all may be one".

OK, now I see! Thank you Pavloosh. I was confused in that your heading responded to my previous post.

Dave,

Thank you for sharing this. I think there are few things so hopeful for our Churches as that their future leaders recognize and come to know one another as people - and if that comes about on a soccer field initially, bravo!

Many years,

Neil

I think they're slated to play the winner of the grudge match between the Knanaite Stariobriodtsi and the Russo-Melkites.

Thank you for your reply Alexandr.
It's not just the soccer [football] games, the ecumenical Molebens, the joint St. Nicholas Day event such as in Scranton PA, etc., etc., etc. - it's the Holy Spirit in our midst.
When I think of the truly wonderful Christian brotherhood and sisterhood relationship that we Northeastern Pennsylvania Ukrainian Orthodox and Ukrainian Greek Catholics enjoy, I love Jesus Christ even more.
Pavloosh
P.S. I realize that I'm tooting our own horn [or sopilka], but we are so blessed here in NEPA!
