Had a co-worker tempting me with the most incredibel chocolate candy Friday. A church in the area is having a fund raiser and they made these dark chocolate mounds filled with salted peanuts. The pieces were almost as big as my hand so one was a lot. But it's been a long time since I've had candy that good. Couldn't have just one.

Does that break the fast?

Although the rules don't require it anymore, many do abstain from meat on Friday. Since I am a vegetarian, I never cared much about that anyway, since it's not a sacrifice for me. I have to find something else to do, but I haven't given up chocolate yet.

Charles:

I'm an "old-fashioned" Catholic and I still abstain from meat on Friday and try to get a little negative and postive fasting in there, too.

But back to the chocolate--did you ever have something that you thought had to be sinful because it was so good? These people had some incredible candy. But then, salted peanuts are a weakness of mine and mixed with that sublime chocolate, well . . .

I love dark chocolate, but am allergic to it. frown
So I must fast from it, but fasting from it gives me strength to say 'no' to sin. So that is good.

Don't the Byzantine Catholics (Eastern Catholics) observe the same fast as the Orthodox Christians perhaps with a shortening of the Christmas Fast (December 10 to December 24)?

Wednesday and Friday - fast and abstinence

Special days of fast and abstinence: Beheading of St. John the Baptist, Exaltation of the Holy Cross, etc.

Christmas Fast November 15 to and including December 24

Great Lent Fast

Apostle's Fast - Monday of All Saints Week to and including June 28

Fast of the Theotokos - August 1 to and including August 14
