Dr Eric,

I believe this is in West Virginia. It is Holy Cross Hermitage and it is a ROCOR monastic community. Really now, with all the green that is around there do you really believe it is in the desert of California? biggrin

My favorite incense rollers... I hope the goats are also well. smile

Doc, they haven't been in House Springs for quite a while now, since before the new highway was built.

I do know that the priest with the mitre is Archimandrite Afanassy Mastalsky from Philadelphia who brought the myrrh-streaming icon of Saint Anne with him. I have been blessed to be in the presence of this icon and got to spend some silent time with it alone at his parish. In the words of Saint Paul, "God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise" (1 Corinthians 1:27). I can't explain such a miracle, and knowing the good father personally, I can honestly say, neither can he. Thank you to
Slavipodvizhnik for posting these pics!

Yep, I'll come and get you. I thought of you while I was there. You would have enjoyed it. It was all in English, the weather was cooperative (actually, dark with intermittant showers, but when Kurskaya came out, the sun shone and it was bright and sunny for the whole service!), and there were some interesting people in attendence. Lets pass on the jerky! I will be smoking kielbasa all this week, as well as shinka(ham) and sala(heaven!!!). I'll provide the snacks!

Oh, and by the way, you might want to bring your wife. If you don't, who knows, they might tonsure you while you're there!!!!!??????

Dr Eric,

Trust me, Alexsandr has some great recipes. I am waiting to be out his way for some fresh lamb. Only amateurs eat beef jerky in the car. wink

Dr Eric, I am making it my goal to get you addicted to sala! smile It looks so professional to eat. You grasp the end of the rind with your teeth, while slicing a very thin slice off within millimeters of your nose and then bite it off the back of the knife blade, followed of course by a bite off a rusk of dark rye bread and the obligatory swish of pertsovka(pepper vodka). It has been said of Ukrainian men that 96% prefer sala to their wives!

Alexandr, who can't wait to get home so he can hit the sala!

When God made Ukrainian men, He gave us the inate ability to fight amongst ourselves like no other race, wives who are usually physically larger and stronger than ourselves, neighbors who don't like us and a marked propensity towards singing in public. To make up for it, He gave us sala!!! biggrin

When you have two Ukrainians, you have three opinions. When you have three Ukrainians, you have a choir.

Nothing like fresh roast lamb - or brinza from your own goat's milk (FDD, haven eaten both tonight from his own animals).

OK ladies, OK!!! I surrender!!! I retract my previous statement that Ukrainian women are physically larger and stronger than their husbands!! I freely admit that all Ukrainian women are svelte, petite models of great beauty, and are possessed of great charm, intelligence and anything else that you can think of. Just don't hurt me!!!!!!!!!! eek

Alexandr, who is seriously thinking about turning around and hesading back to the monastery!!!!

Alexandr,

I thought you were Russian. confused

The sala sounds good!

I don't know about the pepper vodka, I had a bad experience with some OYZO a few months back! wink biggrin

As a man who attends a Ukrainian Catholic Church (when I can.) Should I change jurisdictions since I am taller, heavier and louder than my little wife? wink

AND... if they tonsure me, does that mean the schism is over? wink
