Maybe it's because I'm standing in line to pay a $162 speeding ticket and the officers are being their usual terse and rude selves, but I'll try to be frank about the John Paul issue: if someone wants to call him "the Great" (and it seems the majority do), then go right ahead. I'm not interested in stopping anyone. But I am not interested in calling him that and I don't have to be. It's not a matter of faith!

I would finally ask y'all to realize that just because I'm not interested in calling John Paul "the Great" doesn't mean I don't have an enormous amount of respect for the man!

Oh, and A Simple Sinner, I'm one of those 21 year olds who weren't even alive during Assisi I...but I still do take an interest in it. wink

No, I have a Blackberry Curve. I'm a Verizon customer so I can't have the iPhone since it's tied up with AT&T.

Just an FYI, here is one Orthodox criticism of Orthodox participation in the Assisi gathering:

This thread seems to have run its course and is now definitely off-topic. In the future, the administrators would like that for it to qualify as church news, the topic should be within the same calendar year, not over two decades old. This thread is hereby closed.

Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai
