The "level third bar" is rather lamentable...

The angled pews are due largely to space considerations.

The current lay-out is sublime. No need to change anything.

That is a beautiful parish. One can pray and find salvation there.
I went to the church around 8 years ago and the Deacon who is a friend of mine said it was an old protestant church. It is an odd building and it would be very costly to change the layout. Of course if they took out the pews.......
The layout was completely changed. The altar now faces East -- 180 degrees from its original position. In addition the nave was greatly opened-up with some serious changes to the structure.

Neither the sanctuary, nave or their orientations are due to building limitations.

The remodel looks wonderful! Hopefully we will be able to visit when we travel north. The copper dome is great! biggrin

Oh and dont worry about those pews, there are Orthodox churches that have pews too. It is a hard battle to convince people to remove pews once they are used to them. Personally ,though I'd rather have moveable seating with ample standing room available.

Regretably, the video doesn't seem to be functioning?

Many years,

It is a beautiful remodel and I echo the lament over the pews. It is wonderful to see a Church regain a dome.

My apologies. The correct URL is:

www.saslo.org/youtube.html [saslo.org] (I forgot the .org)

I'm not sure what anyone would have against pews except perhaps their initial purchase price? In our case we bartered with some Protestants several years ago...

Those pews allow the elderly, the infirm and even the worn-out to attend the Holy Mysteries without stigma. I for one am happy we have them. I just sorta wish we had installed some kneelers for use at prayer outside of the Divine Liturgies.

As far as the dome, I sorta wish we would have had an onion...

Chuy said "The "level third bar" is rather lamentable..."

And I ask,"Why?"

Among the Slovak Eastern Christians, the tradition of a level lower bar is common. This I have seen very often in my visit to Slovakia years ago.

At the very least, consistency. The cross at the top of our copper dome and the crosses on our main doors feature a tilted or canted lower bar. I am also told by those who know more than I do that this is "correct" or at least "more correct" for the Ruthenian recension in the USA.

An amazing transformation!!!
I hope the new icons will be wonderful and appropriate to the renewed church. I hope to be able to make a contribution toward that end.

I look forward to visiting soon.

Beautiful Church... We'll probably be down for a visit in July. We're camping in Morro Bay and we'll make the drive in for the Divine Liturgy. You guys at St. Anne's are getting a wonderful new pastor soon, Fr. James Lane. He spent a few months up here in Sacramento at St. Philip while our pastor recovered from surgery, and we were very sad to see him go.
