OK - so what is everyone eating today ?

I'll start

My Christmas Day dinner this evening

1) Veal escalopes , panfired very quickly in a tiny bit of butter and then a good dollop of Madeira put in to make a glorious sauce

Chips

Haricots verts

2) Tarte au citron - with the addition of a little very thick cream on top of each

And to go with it - a bottle of our favourite wine Sieur Gaillard [cellier-de-la-bastide.com]

After all that - a nice cup of coffee and later in the evening more coffee and a glass of port biggrin

OK - now describe yours biggrin

All of this looks very good! I played and conducted choir at a choral concert, then Midnight Mass and Christmas Day masses this morning. After I rest a bit I will tackle the other goodies! smile

Christ is Born! Glorify Him!

Christine welcome to the forum!

I ate too much good food, finsihed the day off with grapefruit and pomegrante biggrin

The granbaby is trying to figure out the birthday stuff, and all our kids like pineapple upside down cake for their birthdays. So where there is cake Marley thinks it is someones birthday. We have been telling him, his birthday is a week after Jesus's birthday - Dec. 31. So, today we had pinapple upside down cake for Jesus's birthday.

Late-morning treat

Cinammon buns, lavishly frosted with whatever that delicious stuff is (cream cheese, vanilla, and sugar, I think)

Appetizers

Various cheeses with crackers
Various dips with carrots, celery, broccoli, peppers, and cauliflower
Olives
Pickles
Prune bread (which sounds unlikely, but was quite good with cream cheese spread on it)
Cranberry juice with ginger ale and either vanilla ice cream or sherbet (orange, lemon, or lime)
Eggnog

Main course

Ham
Mashed potatoes
Sweet potatoes, glazed with honey or not
Butternut squash, with or without marshmallows on top
Carrots, glazed with honey
Peas
Corn
Swiss chard, topped with crumbled hard-boiled egg
Pearl onions, creamed
Cranberry sauce, jellied or whole
Cranberry-orange relish
Dinner rolls

Dessert

Apple pie, topped with vanilla ice cream or cheddar cheese (or, in my case, both)
Mince pie

Coffee or tea

An excellent meal, though I long for turkey and all its typical accompaniments. Foiling my wishes is the conventional wisdom that, with the time that must be alloted to little ones unwrapping gifts - marveling over them - and trying out each, that ham is a better choice, logistically.

So, I will wait patiently until Pascha, when I'll lobby again for Tom. (I did manage to get cranberries included in the menu, another success for my long-standing campaign to convince everyone that they are an excellent side dish for most any meat, poultry, or fish.)

Alice,

Cranberries cooked in maple syrup sounds delicious - would love to get that recipe.

Many years,

Neil

SS - what did you have with your nice fresh acorns ?

What do squirrels actually drink ?

I know we had a gerbil that drank orange juice of his owner's finger every morning when he had his breakfast [ OJ and toast and marmelade - I kid you not biggrin ]
