Hello:

If there is anyone that lives in Washington D.C. or Fairfax Virginia could you please let me know what UGCC Churches exist in those areas? I will be coming up to that neck of the woods from North Carolina in the Spring.

Holy Family Parish is across the street from Catholic University in DC.

Holy Trinity Church is in Silver Spring, MD and follows the Julian Calendar, with Divine Liturgy in Ukrainian.

Other Eastern Catholic Churches near Washington DC include:

There are Byzantine Catholic Churches (Eparchy of Passaic) in Annandale, VA and Beltsville, MD.

There is a Melkite Parish in McLean, VA.

Einar,

If you are there for a longer period of time, I would definitely recommend attending Holy Transfiguration in McLean, VA. I spent a summer in grad school there and it was an amazing 6 weeks at one of the premier Melkite churches in the country.

That is not to discourage you from visiting the UGCC parishes! But at least pay a visit to HT...

God bless,

Dear Father Deacon Daniel:

Thanks for the info. Kathy and I plan on going to Fairfax, Va. for a week in the spring to visit our daughter so we should have the time. It is looking like I will actually be able to get her into a Byzantine church during this visit. We shall see. smile

Do you know if the metro has any lines out to McLean Va? I am not familiar with the lay of the land so I am clueless. Also, we are taking the train so I won't have the car. Using public transportation is going to be a must.

Please don't forget to PM your phone number to me. I have some badly needed downtime today so I ought to be able to give you a ring if you have the time.

Einar,

You should probably take the Orange Line heading toward Vienna. I lived in DC over the summer and a few gracious Forum members invited me to attend Holy Transfiguration. Unfortunately, due to time constraints and shabby internet connection, I was only able to attend St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in the city, as far as Byzantine Christian services go, anyway. That was a pleasant experience.

Holy Family Ukrainian National Shrine, St. Josaphat's Seminary and the Holy Cross Monastery are all accessible from the CUA Metro station. Holy Cross also runs the outreach bookstore of Icon and Book Service, down the street a bit.
