Since humour is subjective, I will now become a sourpuss and say that I don't find this funny...lest anyone think it is a Greek tradition, and become confused, I assure you that this is MADE UP....I have been told that clergy are not allowed to get away with lack of charity, and I find this uncharitable.

Dear Aliki,
Sorry you're feeling injured. But consider this: the loss of Agia Sophia is something we cannot forget (I have a good Paschal sermon on Agia Sophia and what is taking place there unseen by the Turks). As Agia Sophia came on the screen I could have easily wept for grief.

But it is better to laugh than to weep - and the "bunny cake" nonsense is an excellent satire. There are much worse things, but I'm not about to denounce them, especially not in Bright Week!

Christos Anesti! (or, as the Russians might say, Christos Aniesti!).

Hope you are celebrating with an abundance of joy, gladness, and feasting.

Alice,

This was sent to me by a friend who is studying at St. Tikhon's OCA Seminary, but he is a priestly candidate for the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Pittsburgh (i.e. Met. Maximos). This guy is deadly serious on most topics. If he thought this was funny, who am I to argue?

Dear Father Deacon Robert,

I think you all know that I am not really such a sourpuss, but something said to me regarding religious humour put me in a very bad mood today. I should not have taken it out on you...Please forgive me.

Truly He is Risen!

In Christ,
Alice

Not a problem. Have had a few days like that recently, myself. Have a Delightful Bright Week and Season of Pascha!

Call me a curmudgeon, but I'll side with Alice on this one. Although I understand it was made in jest, it made me "uncomfortable".

This is not based on any scientific survey, but I've often spent Holy Week and Pascha in Athens, and I don't remember ever seeing an Easter Bunny cake!

Probably not a big fan of The Onion Dome, then.

"Were they having 'Baw-nee Cake' in 19th Century Russia? No they were not! Is outrage!"
