Man is a microcosm. As we perceive, so we desire. As we desire, so we do. As we do, so we become. And as we become, so we effect the world. And the world, in turn, shapes our perception. And so on. The fail safe switch in that cyclical process is free will: choice. When we choose to fast, we change ourselves and thus the world around us. And when we choose not to fast, we also change ourselves and thus the world around us. The difference is not in the world but in ourselves.

This is why we must always strive to cling to the Gospel and the Truth of Christ rather than the latest nuttiness of the world. Fasting for the wrong reason can change the world in a bad way.

I do think there is enough skepticism from enough reputable scientists on the issue of Global Warming to cause one to suspend judgment in that regard, not to mention the fact that many of its advocates use it as a force for increasing socialist power and imposing radical collectivism on a global scale. It has also been used to advocate for the destruction of human beings through population control. That said, it is also clear that there are problems in our largely disposable society with the pollution of the environment, especially in urban areas. One need only look to state of the City of Man constructed in urban centers to see the state of our souls.

Responsible stewardship of natural resources is always appropriate and we too often do a poor job of it. We need to be good stewards of God's gifts in the earth. The larger point here is that when the initial motivation is shown to be wrong then no one later believes anything one says. The case for good stewardship of natural resources can be made based on both Scripture and sound science. But when one makes it on the nuttiest claims of the global warming religon and when one realizes that it is not supported by either sound science or theology one renders one's self not believable. Once you're labeled as a nut case it is difficult to accomplish anything. So it is best to stick with provable science and theology.
