Thomas like He-Man. He does see me read and he touches the book and says 'bok'.
He runs off when I try to read to him. I'll try reading to him while chasing him.

Books on tape are an excellent diversion on long road trips.

Oh they love books, all kinds. One she has of farm animals - when you get to the pigs - she puts her toes up against the book and pinches her toes (her piggies)

Well if it makes any difference, the grandbabies are using 'your baby can read' series. Although I have to admit I need to use it more, but they love it. I can't say enough about Dr. Seuss' ABCs. It was our oldest's favorite. After two kids, it was worn out. She would then ask M what word's were. She picked out some when out in public with me at 2. At 3, M didn't believe she was actually reading, and took her to a book store--where she read the book she was handed. Blessings upon the pencil-neck that drafted contract that stoopped Mr. Geissel from writing for anyone else, but forgot to include children's books! (he was a tech writer--for an oil company, iirc) hawk

I make a point of giving a copy to little ones. Now that I think of it, it's time to buy a few more . . .

I thought this picture was fitting: http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs048.snc3/13554_518196234256_82500158_30770275_1712841_n.jpgAlso, I have been pointing at objects in and around the church and tell what they are and tell a little explanation of the objects like a painted glass depection of the pentecost or the transfiguration, or the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Last Sunday I was convinced that all the pointing and all the whispers in his ear have paid off. Thomas knows the difference between "Jesus", "Father", and "Mary"...our priest was standing under the crucifix and I asked Thomas "Where's Father?" He pointed to monsignor. "Where's Jesus?" He pointed to the large cruficix. "Where's Mary?" He pointed to a statue of Mary weeping next to the cross. Also, he was sleeping all through mass until the consecration. I think the bells woke him up, but as soon as he opened his eyes he transfixed his gaze on the altar and was staring. I put him on my knee and let him watch from the aisle. He had a clear view. I said "Look, look Thomas, there's Jesus." He also has seen us dip our fingers in the holy water and has been wanting to for some time. I let him but guided his hand to his forehead. Terry
