http://thebulletin.us/articles/2009/10/25/top_stories/doc4ae4b76d07e16766677720.txtExcerpt below: Since the drugs introduction in 2006, the public has been learning many of these facts the hard way. To date, 15,037 girls have officially reported adverse side effects from Gardasil to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). These adverse reactions include Guilliane Barre, lupus, seizures, paralysis, blood clots, brain inflammation and many others. The CDC acknowledges that there have been 44 reported deaths. Dr. Harper also participated in the research on Glaxo-Smith-Klines version of the drug, Cervarix, currently in use in the UK but not yet approved here. Since the government began administering the vaccine to school-aged girls last year, more than 2,000 patients reported some kind of adverse reaction including nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, convulsions, seizures and hyperventilation. Several reported multiple reactions, with 4,602 suspected side-effects recorded in total. The most tragic case involved a 14 year-old girl who dropped dead in the corridor of her school an hour after receiving the vaccination.

Hold on folks Michael Thoma said The most tragic case involved a 14 year-old girl who dropped dead in the corridor of her school an hour after receiving the vaccination. Agreed that's what happened - but what is not mentioned above, was the fact that that particular girl, according to later reports, had a severe but previously unknown cardiac condition and could have died at any time. And having been a School Nurse involved in these sort of mass vaccination programmes in the past - there's nothing worse that one child's fear infecting the rest of those waiting for their vaccination/immunisation.

I agree with Our Lady's Slave. There is no evidence of correlation between the vaccine and the events reported, so to do so on this basis is a post hoc fallacy. If the vaccine was for something other than HPV, would you have posted this? If your main objection is it is a vaccine against HPV, which is sexually transmitted, would you also object to vaccines against gonorrhea, syphillis, HIV, genital herpes, etc. because such vaccines might encourage lascivious behavior?

How many women have died from uterine cancer?
I think that would be slightly more than 44.
My 13 year old daughter received her three shots earlier this year, the only side effects so far have been moodiness and drama, but those are side effects of her age, not the vaccine.
Uterine cancer would not affect me or my sons personally, so the vaccine doesn't apply to us, but if they found vaccines against gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV, herpes or any other STDs, of course I would take them and have my children take them.
The spiritual consequences of extramarital sex are devastating enough, we really don't need the medical ones as deterrents.
If I had the perverse sense of humor of this age, I'd probably find that line of reasoning, that STDs are good because they make you keep your nads in your pants, hysterically stupid (and before anybody jumps, I do NOT make this extensive to people subscribing to that idea, I know some pretty smart people who have done some pretty dumb things).
Since I don't, I find that line of reasoning demonic and perverse.
There.
Shalom, Memo

I think that would be slightly more than 44. First of all, the vaccine is for HPV, which can cause cervical cancer, not uterine cancer. It is important to remember that the effectiveness of the vaccine is in question as well, not just the safety. With any vaccine, we weigh the public and personal risk of the disease against the risk of the vaccine. It is easy to forget that politics are involved even in vaccine recommendations and what is recommended by various agencies does not necessarily reflect what is in the best interest of the intended recipients of the vaccine. http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/13628 Highlights from the article: Dr. Harper asserted that the evidence shows that the vaccine does little to reduce cervical cancer, beyond current preventative measures. She argued that the incidence of cervical cancer in the U.S. is already so low that even if we get the vaccine and continue PAP screening, we will not lower the rate of cervical cancer in the U.S. Dr. Harper also warned that Merck & Co., the maker of Gardasil, had not tested Gardasil on girls younger than 15, chattahbox.com said. It is silly to mandate vaccination of 11 to 12 year old girls. There also is not enough evidence gathered on side effects to know that safety is not an issue, warned Harper. Elizabeth

I think that would be slightly more than 44. The American Cancer society estimates that slightly more than 4000 American women will die from cervical cancer in 2009. The most recent hard number I could find was 3900 in 2004. Many of those deaths could have been prevented with regular screening and early detection. Elizabeth

The reason that the vaccine is recommended for children as young as 11 or 12 is that it is much more effective if given before the girl is sexually active. Elizabeth
