While researching for a trip next year, I found that there was a UGCC cathedral in Paris. There's also a Melkite parish in Marseille.
How large is the Eastern Catholic presence in Western Europe - specifically France.
(I figured Fr Serge would have the best info, but alas, his mailbox is full!)

The Melkites have two churches: one in Paris and one in Marseille. Many Russians in exile took up residence in France so there is quite a number of Russian Orthodox in France, spread around (largely Paris and the South East).

Within the UGCC there is an Exarchate for France, "Benelux" and Switzerland. I believe His Grace Kyr +Michael (Hrynchyshyn) is still the Exarch.

His Grace is in dire need of a vowel.

At the very least, there is the Cathedral in Paris, Chevetogne Monastery (although not UGCC; they pray in Slavonic) in Belgium (very close to the French border), and the church in Lourdes. Awful iconography in the Lourdes church, but a lovely community.

Oh - I don't know - the Iconography kind of grows on you after a while Kyr Michael won't hear of any changes . OH and Chevetogne use Greek and Slavonic and French - it gave me quite a surprise.

In English, the vowels are A, E, I, O, U, - and sometimes Y!

ALEXIS: I understand. I had a student in my English class in the early 1970s with a name similar to his Grace's. It started with "Czsz . . ." but the first three letters were supposed to be silent in English pronunciation. I just adopted the request "would you be kind enough to pronounce your name for me" and found that it helped tremendously. Now when I find a name like that I write it phonemically in my Preneed files so as to help my colleagues in the professional practice from stepping into an embarrassment. BTW, how is the study coming for your last exam? BOB

Thanks for the all replies. I have "google mapped" where the UGCC cathedral is as well as the Melkite church in PAris. Hopefully, on one of our sight-seeing days, I can make a 10-15 minute detour into them and look around.

There is also a pleasant Russian Greek-Catholic church in Paris - metro to Eglise d'Auteuil.

I tried Google Street View in this area - found an address for it at 39 Rue Francois Gerard in the 16th district. Nada! Nothing "churchy" stood out at all.
I did find out that there's some kind of Byzantine Catholic parish in Lyon. I'll be there mid-week but not sure if I'll be able to make it by the parish.

crule,
You've got the right address - I couldn't get the street view to take me far enough to see 39
Holy Trinity Russian Catholic Church 39, rue Francois Gerard 75016 Paris, France Tel: (33-1) 4224-0553 Divine Liturgy: Sunday 10:45 a.m. (Julian Calendar)

The exterior of Holy Trinity Church is unremarkable. But the interior is beautiful, as are the services (good choir). Enjoy!

We'll see how much time and if I can squeeze in this one. I'm doing a river cruise up the Rhone and Saone next year - with multiple stops along the way but finishing up in Paris for a few days. I've mapped out some itineraries for self-guided touring that take me to the Russian Orthodox Cathedral, to Sacre Couer, Notre Dame, Ste Chappelle, the Melkite paris and the UGCC cathedral. If I see any other cool churches (and there look to be many on the map), I'm going to walk in and look around.
