Why is there a "v" at the bottom of Greek-made phelons? Does it mean something?

Not all Greek phelons have that V.

This may just be an Orthodox "urban legend" but I have heard that the V is there in order to make the bottom of the phelonion hang nicely.

Of course, plenty of Greek-style phelonia--especially those made by Rusyns, Ukrainians, Romanians, Serbs, Antiochians and others--do not have a V on the hem and are fine.

The ones made by Greeks and Russians (in those rare occasions that Russian tailors will make a Greek style vestment which my vestments are) the most often have the V. I like it. Looks more Orthodox.

Fr. Deacon Borislav do you have any of the 'vests' the monks wear? don't know if that is the right term or not, but they have the pockets on them, and are a bit longer than most vests. thanks!
