Thought some might enjoy these:

Last Friday, I stopped at the post office to mail some Christmas packages, then at the local grocery store and Wal-Mart to stock up on some items prior to the coming blizzard (we got 23 inches of snow).

At the post office the line was long but moved quickly. The postal worker behind the counter was the Sikh I mentioned in an earlier discussion of why it was a bad move to give up the term “Mother of God” in translation since almost everyone in the English speaking world knew who the Mother of God is (my point had been that he had offered me Christmas stamps, either the “Mother of God stamps or the Winter stamps” – I forget the exact wording now). Well, he did offer me Christmas stamps again – except this time it was the “holiday or the Virgin with Child”. And when I left he wished me a “Merry Christmas!” My point from a few years back is still valid.

When I was leaving Wal-Mart there was the guy from the Salvation Army with the red pot soliciting donations. Except this guy was singing Christmas Carols. And he was singing one of my favorites: “We Three Kings”. And he was belting it out in the key of flat (very flat). And it was wonderful! And he didn’t get the usual buck I throw into every pot but put in a $5.

And today at Kohl’s, and elsewhere as I finished my Christmas shopping (there are still some things you cannot buy online!) I received more “Merry Christmas!” greetings then I remember in previous years.

And then I had a fun time teasing an Orthodox priest friend of mine about when Hanukkah falls on the Julian Calendar....

And found a voice mail from another friend to the tune of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" with the words for "Slava Otcu... in nyni.... Alleluia! ... Slava Tebe Boze." What fun!

Do you have any fun stories? Post them here!

Merry Christmas!

It's been a really rough financial period for us... as in, not certain the rent will get paid, due to underemployement.

Someone, I have no idea who, left a $100 Wal*Mart card tucked into the door.

It wasn't there when I got home monday at 18:00, nor when the couple who provided gifts for the kids left at 19:30... but it was there by 01:00 when the wife came home.

Praise God, and His angels, from whom all blessings flow!

Prayers for you in this challenge.
