I read this description of one of the services to be held for John Paul:

Day 7: Thursday, April 14, 5 p.m. For the Oriental Churches. Divine Liturgy in the Oriental Rite to be presided over by His Beatitude Pierre Nasrallah Sfeir, patriarch of Antioch of the Maronites.

I'm assuming this will be the Maronite liturgy. Anyone know where an English translation can be found of the Maronite Liturgy?

It would indeed be useful to have - IF I manage to be there . I wonder if there will be any translations available.

Goodness knows I have enough problems with Ukrainian - but I suspect I would be totally at sea with the Maronite Liturgy.

If anyone can come up with a Site I would be grateful so I could download it before I go

EWTN will be broadcasting it. It's noted on this schedule:

http://www.ewtn.com/tv/G1Rgrid4.asp

If I read this correctly, it'll be on Thursday at 11AM (Eastern) and rebroadcast later that day at 10PM (Eastern).

It Just started, and WOW, beatiful singing (a capella)the melody is Bortnianski's 'Kol Slaven nas' but different language. biggrin

I just wish the commentator would speak less. There seems to be a 'western' feeling that if the comentator isn't saying something then nothing is happening. It makes it harder to hear the chant!

Steve,

At least one verse was in Ukrainian. I couldn't make out much else because of the sound except "joho serdce."

The Maronite liturgy now on-going is in Aramaic. But some portions, like the reading of the Gospel and the homily, were/are in Latin (Italian?)!

Yes, it is beautiful!

The petitions are being done in the respective languages of most, if not all, of the Eastern Catholic Churches, with the Greek response "Kyrie Eleison" as in the Roman Liturgy last Friday!

As I am following the celebration on Radio, what are the musical instruments accompanying the choir and the faithful?
