One should also remember that Metropolitan Andrew (Sheptytsky) of Kyiv-Halych took many risks to save Jews from the Nazis (hiding many Jews in Greek-Catholic monasteries and other Church institutions, including his own home),protesting the massacre to Hitler and Himmler, encouraging pastors to issue fake baptismal certificates, and issuing his best-known pastoral letter, Thou Shalt Not Kill. Some of those rescued directly by his efforts have written and published accounts of their experience.
