In researching for the directory - particularly in trying to find parish photos (especially of suppressed churches) - I frequently come across sites that I suspect will be of interest to folks here.

These regularly provide me opportunities to correspond with some very gracious people who, without fail, grant permission to use photos from their sites to illustrate directory entries.

Two such sites that I've encountered recently:

McIntyre, Pennsylvania, The Everyday Life Of A Coal Mining Company Town: 1910-1947 [mcintyrepa.com] was created by Professor Susan Ferrandiz, whose Italian immigrant grandparents settled in McIntyre in the early 20th century. Professor Ferrandiz' site includes photos of Holy Cross Byzantine Church, memory eternal, in nearby Coal Run.

These can be contrasted with two more recent - and sad - photos of the now abandoned church that can be seen here [panoramio.com] and here [panoramio.com]

Strubowiska/Smerek [warholic.tripod.com] was created by George Warholic to collect and maintain information on: Strubowiska, Smerek, and nearby villages in the Gmina Cisna region of Poland, near the Polish, Slovak, and Ukraine borders; the inhabitants of those villages; and, their descendents who came to America. It contains photos and/or historical info on a number of Byzantine, UGCC, UOC, OCA, and ACROD parishes. (In addition to the 'Churches' link, check the 'Cemeteries' link - a number of the entries there include photos of the temples to which the cemeteries belong).

Many years,

Neil

Btw, if anyone knows when Holy Cross in Coal Run was suppressed, I'd be curious to learn - as well as why in particular it was closed, if anyone knows.

Many years,

Neil
