http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8584364.stmI went to college in New York City, in a Jewish neighborhood with many conservative Jewish students. There was a fast food restaurant on campus which was all kosher..(which ofcourse meant that you could get a hamburger but not a cheeseburger)...I often ate there because Mcdonald's and Burger King were off campus and farther away. I do not think that this fast food outlet was discriminatory to non-Jews..(there was no sign saying 'Christians stay out')...infact I feel it is quite the opposite, being sensitive to the dietary needs of other religions.

It points out a vast difference between attitudes in France and the States. We have long allowed the regulation of Kosher foods under state laws here in New York. Rabbinical supervision has has to be assured. Kosher delis, restaurants and sections in supermarkets are common in Cities in most parts of the Northeastern US. It is my understanding that when there is not a Halal butcher in an area Muslims will shop at a Kosher butcher to meet their dietary needs. I doubt that Islamist extremists are even aware of the distinction between the US and France in these regards.

Alice, did you go to Brooklyn College? I grew up in Brooklyn and they had such a kosher fast food place. Oi vey! Fr David Straut
