I didn't realize that we were now involved in sports competition; how many points did the Byzantine team score against the Latins? If only our differences could have been settled thus in the past! Is there a Protestant team?

God Bless You Filipe In my decades of following sport, I always found most distasteful people praying to win to be in poor taste and crass superstition.
But I must confess some strange omens in this year's European Cup. The Alpha Game was the same as the Omega Game. (Greek, no less) The first and last game was Greece vs Portugal. In the History of Greece they had previously NEVER even WON a SINGLE match in international play in the entire history of the European Cup! Holy Father John Paul II recently rebuked that Sunday is the Day of Our Lord Jesus Christ, not sport Divine Providence is enraged that many more people follow soccer/futbol/calcio on Sunday than go to church. The two most devout countries are Greece and Portugal, both tiny nations of less than 10 million and limited wealth. The game was played in Lisbon on the Latin Rite Feast of St.Elizabeth of Portugal. FATIMA was a message in Portgual about the Orthodox. The odds on Greece winning at London betting halls before the tournament was 100 to 1. It happened after Hindu rites at Fatima and the Portuguese did not object, including the Bishop of Fatima. The Lady promised the faith would remain strong in Portugal. As they pray in suffering after their national loss this is true. The Greeks were clothed in pure white, like the message of Revelation from the Greek Island of Patmos. Please do not mock me as a superstitious knave. Blessings Filipe Christos Anesti

Of course not, but the important question is: what is the Byzantine baseball team? Only baseball is sacramental, after all..

Walnut,
I'd go further and say that the Chapel at Fatima needs to be totally reconsecrated, and that the Bishop of Leira-Fatima (as well as some others) needs to be removed from his office which he has so disgraced, time and time again.

Friends, I'm not sure what this thread is about. To incophile: Not only is baseball a sacramental, baseball is the official game in heaven. The true field of dreams! Bury me with a glove in my hand. In the afterlife I'm going to catch a home run ball hit by Hank Aaron. Huge congrats to the Greek national soccer team!! God bless, Paul

What is baseball? (BTW, I am not sure what this thread is about either). Ahmmmmmm. To answer Anhelyna's question. Baseball is the great American escape passtime, a way to exercise your lungs by much needed screaming, and better than biting your fingernails after a stressful week. But, must admit that even though this sounds holy - I prefer reading and writing..... Blessings, Porter>a true Mariners' fan...(this is not the season to be jolly about that, however.)

Soccer is a ballgame where you can kick the opponent in the groin, if not busy setting on fire the other hooligan's car(avan). Baseball is a peculiar American game (being perfected by the Japanese) where you can do all of the above while trying to lift "Billy the Goat's curse" from one's futility to win the "World Series" the past 100 years or so. Both are "fast-paced," using snails as pace-setters! Amado (Go CUBBIES!)

And trashing the streets, breaking out shop windows, beating bystanders - or is all that just in Great Britain? I think baseball is a bit more civilized than that. But I suspect the Europeans will always have about as little appreciation for baseball as I have for soccer.

Hey Walnut [that sounds like an insult, doesn't it? Hey, he chose the screen name]: Baseball is poetry, other sports are prose. Baseball is zen, other sports are kung fu. Baseball is contemplative, other sports activist. Only in baseball could any game, in theory, last for eternity. All other sports are linear: Push the ball or puck toward the goal, down there at the end of the field. Baseball is circular, the goal being to return to the source, as in the Mystical Journey. Shall I go on? Americanist heresy, my eye...

Baseball is the sport of Cuba, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Curacao, Panama, Japan and US. Sort of like an Iraq coalition, not exactly global.
The average baseball viewer is about 60. It should be of interest to paleontologists along with fossils.
