I want to buy a Byzantine Service Book (Slujebnik/ Ieratikon) in English. What do you recommend? I would like to buy something with parallel text (both original and English) or... a better edition. Any advice in this respect?

I'll use them for research only.

One of the better ones on the market is the "liturgicon" published by the Antiochian Archdiocese in the USA.

If you want parallel texts, the best one I know of is the Greek-English edition published by Eastern Christian publications.

And... what is your opinion regarding Isabel Hapgood's Service Book of the Holy Orthodox-Catholic Church ?

Well, I personally havent't plowed through her book, but I can say that Hapgood's book is well-used amongst Antiochians. You will find much of her work in the liturgicon.

Hapgood, however, is a brilliant source to have and goes well with the Nassar 5-pounder, also prepared by the Antiochians.

If it still had a print run, I would heartily recommend the Byzantine Daily Worship book by the late Archbishop Joseph Raya.

Why hasn't the Byzantine Daily Worship book been reprinted? Surely there would be a strong interest in it?

I think there are copyright issues.

Stuart is correct from what I know.

So who holds the copyright? And is there a particular reason they would not want it reprinted, given the demand?

My understanding is that ownership of the copyright is in dispute.
